300CD Climate Control

My footwell vents weren't working, pushbutton response was never consistent, and the whole thing just seemed flukey. Bought a reman unit with a 3yr warranty a week ago for @ $175, put it in, and the problems are solved. I'm extremely short of time and simply couldn't devote the 1/2 day it would probably take to go through all the valve and switch tests and since the unit was original, and my feet were freezing by the time my 1 hour commute ended in Mass, I took a shot at a quick fix, assuming that there was a pretty good possibility. Guess I finally got lucky. Now if I can only find the time for the valve clearance check I've been trying to get to for the past 6 months (150k since the last one 3 years ago when I bought the car).

MikeL-

Where did you find that pushbutton unit. I'd love that price and that 3 year warranty.

I had read somewhere on this board that if the unit was resoldered that the core was shot so I figured I had nothing to loose. When I took it out of the dash the board was very hot in a couple of spots. You can even see the heat damage done over the years.
To answer the question yes all functions came back after I was done. I had to do it twice because the first time I had made a connection between two traces that I didn't see and it would not shut off.
I was thinking bad monovalve but noticed that the vents would have plenty of hot air but the fan would not blow. Defrost worked until this year as well. When it went a couple of weeks ago I figured it had to be the PBU. Was going to just pull it and look for a rebuild till I noticed the rebuild sticker on the bottom. Lucky I guess that the things were made in the early 80's. Single layer boards, big fat traces, resistors that you can not only see, but you can see the color bands on them. You can get a gun tip on them no problem. If your unit is bad it's worth a shot before shelling out 2 bills on a rebuild.
Now I guess I'm going to try the cruise control module

Unhappy ACC Problems

Fun and games with the Mercedes automatic climate control..

So, It is called a servo unit. Mine was cracked, corroded, currupted, and clogged and now connected no more. Further, all of the plastic vacuum lines below the battery were broken and crumbly - 10,000 leaks !!
I checked two of the links ( thank you, thank you) but came up with nothing.

acc

I have been quoted about $800 or so from Smitty, this is still far too much. Having heard of $400 ~ from " European Auto Parts", I checked it out and found nothing.
I wonder if the unit for a Chrysler from the 60s or 70s would be identical ?? I doubt if there are any still existing that are still rebuildable(using the $225 dealer kit)

Talk to Randy at European Parts Specialists 805-683-4020

He'll sell you a rebuilt servo with the metal body for $289.

Tooter, did you order a servo?

I'm having problems with mine and wanted to check on the status of yours as we have the identical car...

ACC Problems

Fisherman, we may be in the same boat and without oars , not good.. I have yet to order anything, this Benz is not in the best of condition.. Body rust, the two front fenders and the RS rocker panel.. Now I fear it is burning oil.
You may be able to restore your engine compartment vacuum controlled ACC temperature control unit, used from '77 to 80 or '81..
Hopefully it is in better shape than mine - cracked, corroded, clogged, and corrupted.
$289 is by far the best price, I recall $225 just for the rebuild kit..

Excellent source for parts!

If you are still in need of a servo or other 123 parts, check these gys out:
Equipment Exchange
Located in Mequon, WI

They have some stuff on EBay now (search by userID= bakeequipcenter)

Sorry I do not have their # with me, but I emailed them and they have a TON of 123's that they are parting out...

Guy's name is Joe.

servo

The ACC servo, 000 830 03 84 94 114 27 109 P52 102 should arrive very soon, the seller ,bugeyeV8, is a bit slow. This item is not cheap, I saw to that by outbidding another man who was bound and determined - well, that is the marketplace - pay the price or do without.
The next step is "rebuilt" vacuum lines. The original (in many colors)in the area of the battery are brittle and crumbly, they will be replaced with rubber ones.
The "new" servo also comes with a monovalve, which I may not need?

ACC servo

Thanx for the info, mpnye.
2000 is a rather high number, are there that many Benzs needing new ones ?? Even with all the Chryslers, 200 is highly possible, but 2000 ,I doubt. Hopefully used units and rebuild kits should fill the bill. I doubt if my original servo was rebuildable - still, I cannot pitch it , it may contain one good piece.

servo

Well . . . The manufacturer doesn't give a rat's ass what YOU think . . . 2K is the MAGIC NUMBER . . .

It would be much better for our nation if the manufacturers improve their attitudes and be less greedy. And those who support them are just as bad.
I have no problem with their numbers, I have know for 40 years that there is nothing like high numbers to reduce the price of goods. But as I said before, I doubt is there is a market for more than 200 servos per year, if that many.
I have yet to receive the ACC heat control servo that I bought over eBay from the bugeyeV8. His degree of competence is very low, he is honest but mistake ridden.
I hope I do a better job of installing it !
