you can't drive both at the same time
But you can tow one with another, or use one to jump start the other and all kinds of permutations with more than two cars.
Oh, don't tell the Dieselphrenia Police I said that. But my insurance salesman will be eager to meet all of you here, he thought I was the first person with so many Mercedes. Dieseldiehard 1971 220 (gas) 4-spd manual 104041 1979 300TD w/ ’85 turbo engine 288975 1983 300D 237300 1985 300TD 205437 |

Yup. Me, too
![]() Nuts! Saw a 240D tonight at Taco Bell as clean as the AZ model, except its hubcaps were painted. Chatted with the owner, didn't introduce myself -- but did plug Mercedesshop.com diesel forum. The guy paid $1,500 for it with 140K -- from a guy that had five cars :p . Nuts!

Larry Delor,
Seven vehicles---two drivers---(rollback requires commercial on seperate policy)---5 ALWAYS parked---my wife drives one car exclusively---I drive the other 6 (physical limitations permit me to drive only one at a time)---the 6 cars have exactly the same premium to the dollar (liability only on all vehicles). A ripoff any way you look at it. Just "the way it is".

Insane here also.
Single driver, 5 vehicles: '85 300CD, '94 E420 (stored in a friends garage), '89, '90, '91 Jeep Grand Wagoneers (the ones with the wood on the side). Fully insured on 2 of the 5 that I drive the most, liability on the rest. Something has to give. I'm always moving cars around, and I can't ever remember what I left in what car. Craig

Wait till you go to the store, then come out and can't remember which one you drove there!
I feel your pain about the insurance, with so many vehicles in my stable, I have to drop one to add another to drive it. My policy will only accept 5! ![]()

It's not coming out of the store and forgetting which car you drove that's the biggest problem, it's driving style.
Getting into a 58 Corvette with 406ci with nitroous after driving the "Snail" diesel mercedes you can almost kill yourself. New Cayenne v. 54 Chevy pickup, Powerstroke Ford, 87 300D, etc. You gotta remember not to floor it like you would the Snail or I wind up in the ditch! |

Is this the 12 step program for diesel addicts
I just bought this one:
and I'm already looking to get another one. I sure liked that yellow 240D. I was looking at that one too but it got too rich for me. I'm wondering if its possible to nip this problem in the bud?

Hi axlechassis (interesting moniker!)
I see you bought some valve adjusting wrenches from the guy in Hawaii. Man he sold off a lot of great tools! I love my '83 300D, its the wife's car and the one that got me started. Actually it was my friend and his 240D W115 chassis that got me hooked on diesels. There's no cure, you know - be forwarned! I'm exited about getting those valve adjusting wrenches. I'm afraid I really stepped up to get them but a buddy told me that they are worth about $200.00 if in real good shape.
I love that engine though. I'm looking at buying a good running rust bucket or two to put the engines in my FJ40's. You can see I already have a problem with landcruisers. I buy those whenever I get the chance.

Sheesh, I did a search and found there are lots of Rock Crawlers and off-road enthusiasts that are addicted to the LandCrusiers especially the FJ40 see:
http://fj40driver.cruiserpages.com/ A 3 liter turbo charged diesel ought to make one of those babies really haulbutt. Would you install the MB automatic transmission or stick a manual 4-speed on it? Dieseldiehard |

the FJ40 is a very stout well built vehicle that lends itself to many aftermaket modifications. Even complete alluminum bodies and heavy duty aftermarket frames are available for them. I think the 300D turbo engine would be great in it. So far I have just heard about people putting the 5 banger in it. No one yet marketing and adaptor yet. I'm open to sugestions on the transmission but kind of favor the GM 700R4 for its availability and wide gearing range. If I knew I could use it I'd buy another 300D-T right now. There are several rusty runners on the e-bay.
The one I just bought is too nice to cannabilize just yet. Here is the FJ40 I want to stick a diesel in. I just put a new alluminum tub on her and a lifted suspension.

I'm getting closer now after this weekend - check out the changed signature. If the paranoia doesn't get any worse, this might be enough diesels.

Ken, once I get my new cars I'll have pretty much the same in my stables as in yours except my 240D is an '83. I've never been in a W124 diesel. How do you like it compared to the W123?
