Just passed 200,000 with only a couple of minor problems, (glow plugs, shut off switch). Bought a 95 diesel that currently has 140,000. So far, so good.

1984 Isuzu Diesel Pick Up

not a MB, but my Isuzu purchased new in March of 85, now has 502,000. Orginial engine, transmission, rear end. Pick Up is showing age with rust in wheel wells and other places. Drive train runs just like new. Still gets 36-40 MPG, depending on speed.

I did buy a 81 240D, with 170,000 thinking if an Isuzu can last 500,00 then a MB should last just as long.

I got my '87 300D Turbo last year with 277,000 mi on it. I had to replace the shut off valve, which was a hassle, had to take the intake manifold off. The guy I got it from had a choke cable from Wal-mart rigged up thru the firewall and mounted under the dash so he wouldn't have to get out and manually shut it off each time. It only has 278,000 now. I'm working on a WVO set up and haven't driven it much.
Later,
Brad

1984 300sd

Well ASAIK, I have the original engine and transmission without a rebuild with 238,000K in my 1984 300SD and no smoke at all...shifts great and soon to be running on old fryer oil. There is nothing that kicks harder than a Mercedes Diesel.

280,020kms on original drive train. Driven daily - not bad for a $400 investment...

1985 Mercedes 300CD

I (only) have 352,000 miles on my 85' mercedes. I think it could have been rebuilt, or not. I don't know, all I know is that it runs great, even better than my previous 300d with only 115,000 miles. I am thinking of selling it, if anyone wants it, give mme an offer. I am selling it on craigslist in spokane for $5,000 OBO.

I had a friend in Seattle who had an 84 300D (he bought it new) that went (chassis and engine, with one engine rebuild at 300k miles) 750K miles before it pooped. God I wish I had taken a pic of that odo (which amazingly worked perfectly the entire 750K miles) before the car went to the scrap yard. Ahhh the days before the widespread use of digital cameras...
