I agree to that!
Sept 1990 W124 193 and we know what we are talking about
The year only is not enough : MB changes models in September so 1990 we would not know it's a Serie one or a Serie two W 124. Serie 3 W 124's came
in Europ since Sept. 1993...
I hope a lot of people will be reading this thread.

Unhappy

A little sugestion, though, for making it easier to use the search....howzabout a search engine that recognizes quotes and actually finds the phrase I am looking for?

Case in point, a few weeks ago, I wanted to search for whether anyone, at any time, for any reason had tried to use a check valve for a line with dino diesel in it? (Like, in an auxiliary tank, or a storage tank at a shop or a tank on a boat.) So, I naively typed in: "check valve" and (fuel or diesel).

Considering that the (*&$$$#^^%%@ search engine doesn't recognize quotes or parentheses, do you care to take a guess at how many threads that search returned? And of the ones I opened, guess how many were of any help? Zero.

Just food for thought.

The search engine is a bit quirky IMO. It's frustrating to try to search for things that have only three words because it won't do it. Using the word AND doesn't help all that much as it brings up a lot of unrelated junk in addition. I guess it's still better than nothing when it's up and working.

I too don't very much like it, for example, how many people type in "1987 300D" in their message? everyone just drops the 19 cause we are all Y2k Compliant but if you put in 87 in the search engine, it won't look cause its a character string that is less than 3.

Man.... you guys are neanderthals LOL. Just Kidding!!!! Heck, I'm only an advanced neanderthal when it comes to searching myself. Here is a hint that works with some search engines like this one:

Use the wild card character of "*" to bump it past three. So if you want to search for "DIY" type it in like "DIY*"

Someone stated before that every topic has been covered. If that is the case why even have a forum to discuss anything ? I still search but I would rather ask the questions and post a few pics here and there. I think it makes it more fun for all of us. We all benefit from eachothers questions. For all you know someone might be encountering that identical problem and he will benefit just as much from the thread as me.

Just a thought

I concure Kamil, although I am a new user to this forum, I have found that the search engine works very well, but as you said posting pictures, and new threads may help others, and also help explain something in a better way or different way then in past threads found in the search engine.

I see no problem with someone posting the same question. If one of the 'experts' doesn't want to respond, no problem. I've noticed over the years that there are many who unselfishly answer the questions time and again.
Hardly ever is a question identical to another and if it is, so what. Many times experiences change the way someone would answer a question as in the case of someone who figures out a shortcut or easier way of doing something. If no one asked the same questioin, all that valuable experience would be unavailable. If people feel intimidated to post a question because it might have been asked before, this board will turn from a forum into a club.

The search will work for more than one word but you have to go to advanced search to get any meaningful results. You can narrow down searches by adding more words and by specifying a username. You can specify the forum in which to search and search titles only or the whole thread. There are a good many options available. But it is still frustrating sometimes.

If you just can't get anywhere with the forum search you can use google and specify mercedesshop.com as the domain for the search.

This forum has become much more entertainment oriented and less information oriented as time has gone on. If you are looking for specific information you may weed out a lot of useless fluff by restricting your searches to at least a year in the past.

Oh and PLEASE read the ENTIRE thread before you slap your crap on the end of it or pass it off as only having information pretaining to the title.
Seems like a lot of people are doing this lately and it gets annoying because its rather obvious they aren't reading what others have said and thus repeating information or looking like fools.

My pet peeve

Smile Here is a search that took

a lot of time.
If you read all the threads, it may take a month.
No idea where else to post it.
Hope it helps you.

We need to either make this sticky at the top of the list or SOMEHOW get people to pay attention to it better. There is a rash of posts recently that are the byproducts of non-searches and it is pushing good topics down the tubes where they may very well end up being passed by. I am all for asking decent questions (if they are sorta repeated in the past) but this is getting a bit excessive. Just silly, simple questions that cannot be answered in one word or post but are out there....in the mash...

Any ideas? Boldface? Screaming music when the page loads (just kidding )?
