I don't care where you live... 1 coat of wax a year will prevent that. But of course more is better. I am going to wax my baby here soon. Maybe this weekend. Nothing better than a freshly waxed car!!

Hello 190D22
Been there done that. Texas UV is extreme for paint/clear coat, waxing every week does help, but will not stop the process. Have a great day. |

Are you kidding?!?! Waxing once a week seems a bit extreme... but even that won't prevent it?! I don't believe that. Especially for an MB, the clear coat is supposedly superior even to the point that the paint does not fade... My car has NO clear coat problems, only chips and rust.

have you lived there?
Hello 190D22
Have you lived there? Make a new post and ask people from Texas. You can wax once a year in Houston, Texas; if you own a garage queen, or are selling the car soon. Quote:

No I haven't, and I believe you that the texas sun is murderous to the finish... but once a week won't prevent that?! I'd have thought that once a month is all you'd need.

My SDL is originally from Texas, and the clearcoat on the roof is totally shot. The clear coat on the hood is starting to get a little spotty as well.
I suppose it can be sanded and redone, but that sounds like a lot of time and effort, and I'm too poor to pay to have it done. |

Cooking on hood
Hello 190D22
Had an old domestic beater while I was there. Scrub the hood with dish soap, rinse off, crack eggs and drop bacon next to it, a plastic spatula works nice on a hood. Yes; my hood was used as a frying pan, worked great, just had to be careful not to burn the bacon. Winter in Texas; is like midsummer in Michigan. You need to be there in summer to understand. |

Well I hope you're kidding on the dish soap part... That would PARTIALLY explain why your waxing didn't hold up.
