John, how are you? Go for the car, its a rare one! Yes, that color is called Thristle Green. Some hace even called it Cascade Green, but its known as Thristle.
Remember that race years ago between you and the Euro from Ohio? In the parking lot? A Euro will walk with a Turbodiesel off the line, once the turbo kicks in, its all over. |

I've been great. How about you?
Yes I kept up with his 5-speed off the line, but I took over past 2500rpm. I'm probably going to buy it. |

I say go for it. It is a clean looking example. Personally, I like the non-turbo 300D better than the turbo model for around town, 55 mph speed limit use type use.

Hey John, does the ac work? You'll need it.
Oooops! Sorry. I forgot you won't need it for a couple of months still. Good luck.

It has an aftermarket A/C system installed as the car was not ordered with it from the factory. The belt is off but there is pressure in the system.. I'll see if I can make it work.

FANTASTIC
John,
Congratulations on the new ride! Totally cool car. It IS possible that it MAY just need to have a rebuilt clutch master cylinder take care of any quirky shift engagement. Last fall I ALMOST purchased a very nice euro 300td (NO TURBO) from an old motorcycle racer up in new hampster.....he stated that he PREFERED to NOT have the turbo...especially in the SNOW... Anyway, I was a little turned off by the blue smoke.....he dropped his price from $3,000 to $2,500 after I took the 1.5 hour ride (each way) to check it out. Each year a local farm guy would pull the red plastic plugs that had been drilled into the hollow caveties and spray some type of midweight oil into all of the hollows........this appeared to have worked very well.....needed to locate a MATCHED set of locks and a few other things....Oh well...I let it slide... When I drove the normally aspirited 300 (1985)...it had quite a lot of pick up and GO all the way up to 85 on the 2 lane mountain roads......seemed to have GOOD POWER. Oh well, got the wife the fantastic 1982 300Sd that will be hitting the HIGHWAY soon for a highspeed run down past the "Manson Nixon Line". Good luck with the new ride! spo out |

Got it today, it's parked outside. Drove it around the block a few times and I'll tell you it feels as fast as a turbo car. Havn't had it on the highway yet so I'll report back.
Prev. owner said the clutch is getting weak, but it feels OK to me, I'll just drive it until there are problems. Vac. door locks don't work, have to trace down the leak. Engine vibrated more than normal at cold start but sounded and ran fine.. I'm thinking rack dampner pin? Seems like an excellent car so far. |

It's metallic, but unmistakibly green. You would not say it's a gold car. The color is thistle green.

Interesting looking car. It looks nice. I'm not used to seeing a W123 with the small bumpers, makes the car look really different. I almost thought the color was like mine but when it finally finished loading (dial-up ISP) it undeniably is greener.

You must have racked up a couple of hundred miles by now..... I wanna hear about performance and shifting speeds.
On the 240D am constantly dropping into 2nd below 30mph... and 4th never sees anything below 50. Optimum performance seems to be in 3rd between 45 and 50 mph. Whats the Euro 300D like? Can you drop into 3rd at 60mph.... and grab 3rd from 2nd at/near 35 or 40?? Also is it true that 4th will take you beyond 95 up to 100mph? |

Not many miles yet, only a few times around the block as it ins't registered or insured yet.. but I can't help but driving it around the block a few times a day, it is such a fun car and is not that slow. I will report back when I get some miles on it.
