IT's been a good month!

I bought TWO MB Diesels this month and I am so happy! I sold my wife's 2002 VW TDI and bought her a 1984 190D in excellent condition, paid $750 for it. She has driven it almost 1,000 miles so far and it hasn't used a drop of oil. I had to put a new A/C compressor on it but that's all. Great little car IMHO.

I ran across a 1982 300SD, tired paint, 127,000 on the odometer( not actual, I am most sure), tranny needs some TLC and adjusting, multiple vacuum leaks, new tires, perfect interior, A/C works but not really cold, just cool....$500! This car starts flawlessly, no smoke, I've driven nearly 500 miles since I picked it up and oil level is perfect.

I am now the proud owner of an '85 SD, '82 SD, and an '84 190D. Man it's been a good month!

Luck is far more important then skill.

Also congrat's on getting rid of the car payment and lowering your insurance cost.

Here's the story...

I have been after the 190D for 7and a half years. The PO gave me my first diesel (1981 VW Rabbit, purchased new by them) seven years ago. I saw the 190D in the carport and jokingly said to them that I would own it next. They didn't give it to me but close. I had the privilege to be the PO pastor (my first church) and they have always wanted to bless the ministry. I know that God will bless them.

The '82 Sd was sitting on the back row of a car lot in Taylors, SC. I just happened across it. I told my wife upon seeing the car "if it runs and drives I'll give'm $500 for it. I really wanted it for parts. The salesman said he needed to get $500 out of it so I didn't negotiate. I gave him the money and drove it home (@60 miles one-way). I have been driving it for almost a week and it runs GREAT! No smoke, noises or rattles.

Fuzzball, don't feel bad about the '84 for $3200. I paid $3200 for my '85 SD with 149,000 miles only to find out that there was some significant rust. Too late now!

Duesenbergs could once be picked up for $500, and

I know of one '34 Packard 12 convertible victoria which the present owner picked up in 1941 from a Baltimore Packard dealer's used car lot...for $65. The guy had it laid up in his garage since 1960, and it just came out for a mechanical "freshening up" two years ago...the old guy took it for a spin and then returned it to repose in his garage for the kids to fight over when he kicks.
