I wish. Brian (KTA-Cummins) holds that title with 145hp at the wheels.

Ahh I see well my point still stands that your setup is still wicked. I wish I had enough time and ability to do that.

So I'm not seeing any of those on e-bay at all, is this kinda one of those wait and see games? What about the Garret hybrids? There's a ton of them on there for $150ish...or less. and some of the T25s, which I don't know if they're large enough??? or worth the worry. Long term I'm definitely looking to have the option to produce more power, but I can just use a bypass and wastegate to get rid of whatever I don't need for the time until I get the fuel right, right?

Yep. eBay is totally dependent on what people want to sell at the time.

99.9% are cheap Chinese junk. If the compressor housing has anything other than Garrett cast into it, or nothing at all, its fake.

They are all too small.

Pretty much. Only make what boost you need, more will just restrict the exhaust and heat the intake air.

Ok, so last question before I start doing some SERIOUS more reading...my mind is wandering a little, but I keep hearing about all the desire to spool @ lower RPM. This is 100% understood, and I get the advantages, but in most applications that I've seen...a sequential setup (barring 700+hp rediculous gasser setups) is usually more efficient than just a single turbo....soooooo.

Could I (in theory) use a combination of either the stock turbo or one of the VNT's that you guys use and simply add on (I know it's not that simple, but very doable) a smaller turbo, say like one from a 1.9TDI (Jetta or something, they're VNT also, some of them)... and have at least some boost from a much lower RPM.

I know you don't want to build too much boost at too low of an RPM for fear of blowing the motor apart in a gasser, but if someone (me) were to introduce minor boost (say under 8psi) to the motor almost off-idle, would this potentially work out to be a sweet setup in the long run? (assuming all fuel factors, the engine being in good condition otherwise, there being sufficient safety checks, etc...). I'm thinking you could probably run something like that and almost run a straight exhaust without increasing noise level almost any since the extra turbo would be even more noise suppressing.

I know I'm getting into needing custom intake and just about custom everything out the wazoo, but I planned on most of the upper half of the motor being custom anyway other than the IP. (because it's going in the Rover)

Thoughts from the Gurus?????

Not really, its old, inefficient and overcomplicated technology. VNT turbos are just now starting to peek into g@ssers (though Porsche).

No reason why it can't. Mine runs fine getting 8psi of boost at 1700rpm every day.

Scrap metal. The compressor wheel is damaged.

I've been running a AiResearch TB03 from a 740i with great success. It spools up much faster and does 10psi all day. The greatest bennefit is the external wastegate. The holes line up, but have to be bored out and it doesn't quite seal perfectly, RTV copper sealant takes care of that.
