Found it... bolt on the back of the ip. It had backed off and was not putting inward pressure on the rack(?). duh...

Going back to the measuring rpm problem - assuming a tachometer is fitted to the car what would be the problem with hooking up to that (before the tach amp)?

I dont know if that works or i not .i know they can use reflective tape on the balancer with a optical sensor to pick it up. I believe some dyno software can actually just read it off the drum if you know what the gear ratio is.

I think the tachometer sensor is a magnetic proximity sensor which gives a pulse when the pin on the balancer lump goes past - these pulses could be counted - much like the optical equivalent - I'm just uncertain if the signal conditioning would be present or not on a dyno...

Gotta ask someone who designs dyno's.

I do a dyno test for every major change I do to my cars. I've gone from 89whp stock to 107whp with a VNT turbo and other efficiency improvements (NO additional fuel), currently its at 120whp with the injection pump maxed out. I'll be doing another one in a few weeks after I get the compound turbo installed.

The energy is far too low for a conventional induction sensor to pick up. The place I go to uses reflective tape on the P/S pulley (0.9:1 overdrive) with an optical pick up.
Tape on the crank is easier but many places don't allow objects to be on the floor in front of the vehicle.

Only on the 617s. On the om60x this signal can be picked up from the diag box.

Perhaps the OP should update his CP/sig to let us know what hes driving. Maybe even location. There are so many Dyno's near my its hard to spit without hitting one. I have yet to do anything but turn screws and am too cheap for dynoing them.

I had my 300DT dynoed a few months ago. My interest was to see the difference between dIesel and wvo. I don't remember the numbers at the moment other than a 7% difference. I will find the graph and post later.
