Oh come on, where is your sense of adventure? Once you get up to freeway speed (agreed it does take longer with a 240), it is just like any other 'Benz. Maybe you could go Friday night and caravan with Michael C.

Sorry, but I gotta disagree with you on that one. The 300TD will cruise effortlessly at over 75-80 mph, while remaining more quiet, more comfortable, and likely to get better fuel economy than the 240D.

The 240D cruises best at under 65 mph. Even then, its louder and would probably slow down with every freeway undulation. Fuel economy suffers big time at speeds over 65 mph...not like any other Benz.

Post W-123 Fuel Economy

Well ;

yes and no ~ I drive both SWMBO's 240D and my 300CD long distances and the 240 always gets better mileage even if I drive the 300CD @ 60 , 60 MPH is the cut off speed for max. fuel economy in any W-123 chassis .

My 300Cd never gets 30 MPG's no matter what I do .

So , I tend to pin the throttle and tear up those long desert roads in my beloved 300CD but , in the 240 , I hold it right at 60 and routinely get 32 , occasionally 34 / 36 MPG's , always with the AC cranked up .

My brothers W-126 SD , always gets better fuel economy than I do and he's always got the car full of heavy crap . W-126's have much better aerodynamics .

Nate, I'm not sure I understand where you disagree...? That said, I can't say that my 240D is as efficient as it could be...

I've never done better than 25 mpg in the 300TD. I typically (always)drive faster than 60 mph on the freeway . Still, the 300TD (D, CD) is a more comfortable hwy cruiser IMO.

Not exactly what I said. Though I guess I should have said "my 300td" will get better fuel economy than "my 240D" at 75-80 mph. I used the word "Likely" because I've never actually driven my 240 D at those speeds long enough to make any conclusions. I based my statement on the fact that with mixed city driving and hwy speeds of 70-75 mph, my 240D will get 21-22 mpg while my 300TD will do the same with mixed city driving but moving slightly faster on the fwy, say 75-80.

Regardless you're right about 240D's at 60 mph, that's where they shine.

We pre-ran the route last weekend, and it is going to be an AWESOME drive. Be sure to bring your cameras, as this is a very scenic drive. I can't wait to see the photos that Patrick (mbeige) will take!

Sounds good. We're looking forward to it!

I few weeks ago I did the final detailing on my old car. There was still quite a bit of wax residue caked into the trim edges, weather strips, and mouldings. A tooth brush and 303 Protectant not only brought back all the rubber it cleaned out all the white caking. Then cleaned all the greasy overspray 303 off the paint and applied a synthetic wax. Oh my, it really looks like a new car again. She's running like a clock.

I really need to get some detailed photos now. It may not be a fancy car but it's condition is a ten!

Dennis & Rich,

If I arrived around 7:00 a.m. would breakfast at Norm's be in order? So far that's my plan.

That sounds like an invite to me! Yes, breakfast would be a great idea. However, I will be coming from Hesperia, so I will need to leave at
0-Dark:30.

O - dark thirty.... Haven't heard that in awhile. I've seen Norm's ads, it may be worth it... I'll be looking for you. I'll be driving the pastel blue 300D parked out back...
