Not so fast...

Going to look at a 1993 500E tomorrow. Diamond Blue over Grey. 54k miles. All options (CD, phone). Belongs to the shop foreman of a dealer down here. Looking forward to seeing it. Maybe I'll join the club ;-)

Good Luck i hope you buy it. I think that its good that your possibly getting it from a shop foreman, (trained MBZ tech) The car was probably very well taken car of.

I think that a meeting that Michael has is planning would be cool. The only thing is that I would not race my 300E. It would be a complete destruction of my car, I would get DUSTED BIG TIME< then I would get LAPPED. However a 97 E420 won't get slapped around quite as much by the 500E's, even though it will still loose. I'd love to see a 500E, I've never seen one yet.

Anyone have some ideas for a west coast gathering of Mercedes Benz Super Sedans? I'll travel anywhere for a good time!

Perhaps something held in conjunction with an MBCA event would work best. Any regional members out there want to extend an invitation?

Diane and I will be back to Nevada this September for the Silver State Classic open road race (hopefully in the max. 165 mph class if I can get a rollbar waiver) and would love to fit in a gathering of Benz's around that time.

Unless, of course, you all would like to come up here to Edmonton and visit the worlds largest indoor shopping mall (what a horrible thing to be known for). Gretzky, come home!

We're almost neighbors! I am in San Juan Capistrano. I would love to see your 500E sometime - did you buy it several months ago, maybe from the Mission Viejo Mercedes dealership? My friend test drove a black/grey 94 500E to replace the M6 that was T-boned, but wound up buying a BMW 850 instead. (His loss!)

Dean,

The BC Section of the MBCA has an annual rally to Whistler for a weekend. Talk to Evelyn Siren. I'm pretty sure she's in Edmonton. She and her husband came out last year.

BTW, it's not a timed rally...just one for fun :p

1992 stock 500e

Black Pearl with tan interior.
Currently in the shop for head work. A Plastic piece somewhere in the timing chain area broke. Debris all over the inside of the engine. A $3500.00 affair. This happened right after a new radiator was installed at 92K miles.

Orange County, California

Happy motoring

sorry to hear about your head-work.
the culprit was probably a broken timing chain rail guide. Why did you put a new radiator in? Was the engine running excessively hot? I noted that the original owner replaced the radiator also... I think there were some enhancements made to it but not sure...

Mark,

My radiator broke while I was going to lunch last week. Had to have it towed to the shop. My mechanic said the radiatiors on MB lasts about 100K. So I guess it was normal wear and tear.

regards,
Thanh Nguyen

500E owner Roll Call

I'm in Toronto, Canada but take a lot of very satisfying roadtrips to places within a six-hour driving area...
This includes Manhattan, Chicago, Boston, etc

I'm rolling a Pearl Black on black leather '94 E500 with 120,000 km, a PAD chip (Thanks, MoEck!) and K&N filters.

In the winters (late Oct - late March) I use Nokian Hakkappolitas on stock 16" 8 holes.

I just purchased 17" AMG Monoblock II's (17x7.5 fronts, 17x8.5 rears) but may have to replace the fronts with 8.5's too.... anyone know for certain?

I have a Valentine One and a Phazer passive jammer (anyone have any experience with these?) and a spotless record.
Knock on wood

Anyone else near here?

John Epstein

Can't answer the Toronto question, but can be added to the line up:

1994 E500
Brilliant Silver
Black Interior
All factory original incl. phone and CD
60K Miles
Starmarked through 2003

Might be interested in adding more rubber (EVOII 17x8.25, 235/45/17), Euro headlights, upgrading the audio quality and a digital phone set up. Also may want to consider additional cooling - I live in the SE.

Steve

Buffalo/Syracuse/Toronto/Hamilton & area

Forget Niagara-on-the-lake -- after a drive like that, I want Dinosaur BBQ! (Rochester or Syracuse - either one...)

Dino's has unbelievable food, and I never fail to stop there on my way to NYC or Boston from Toronto (I can AVERAGE 120MPH from Toronto to Kingston on the 401 fwy, then south to Hwy 81 straight down to Syracuse at ~100, eat, then fly the rest of the way along I90 to wherever...)

And the Oneida Reserve has a massive and beautiful Vegas style casino and hotel 30 mins away along I90... (I don't really gamble, but the hotel is nice and inexpensive since it is a loss-leader to seduce people to visit...)

If I am going to Buffalo (or Rochester, etc) I drive more slowly since the police are thick and fast along the QEW (Queen Elizaibeth Way) to Niagara falls....

Anyone interested in doing a roadtrip, please let me know

John Epstein
