I have bene thinking about purchasing a set of Eibachs for a while for my E320. However, I am concerned with how difficult it may be to remove and install these... Is this a job a DIYer can take on? I understand you can "rent" a spring compressor from AutoZone. So, anybody know how to do this?

You will also have to realign the car after the install is completed so you will have to take it to a professional sooner or later. Given what can happen with springs, I'd recommend you just have a professional do it and get everything done at once/in one place.

Hope this helps,
Lee

Can I??

The spring compressor you can rent at Auto-Zone is probably more instrumental for use on American cars, if any are left!
A Mercedes in the front does not have the spring on the strut as many McPherson cars have so a different style unit may be required. Your ability to do the change is also a factor and beware flying springs can hurt and kill. I've done mine by jacking each wheel under the control arm to compress that spring as much as possible. Then I place homemade clamps on the spring and tighten them up. Then I drop the arm with a jackstand under the chassis, and push it further with a pipe or fulcrum.
Before doing this it's good to place a blanket around the spring to hold it just in case... Do this slowly and carefully and it's not too hard.

The secret is the use of the proper tools.

Good luck,
