OK,

With all the upgrades to headlights and fog lamps that are available, I am looking for feedback on what some 500E/E500 owners use?

Has anybody performed Euro Headlight conversion? If so what is the best source to consider? I have found very little reference to the 500E/E500 model on sites offering the conversions.

Are the PIAA bulbs really worth it, or is there something better?

What about HID, or Xenon conversions?

All opinions welcome!
(Not just 500E/E500 owners)

Ross,
I don't own a 500E...YET, but I think you have basically two options.
1. Replace current lights with regular Euro lights and stay with your stock hood. If you choose this route, you can order 500E specific lenses which will let you retain the inboard driving lights.

2. Switch to E500 lights with E500 hood.

In either case you can then add HID xenon bulbs/ballasts. I wouldn't waste money on putting HID bulbs in the U.S. spec lights.

I went the relative Cheapo route and simply went to 80/100W 9004s in my 500. At that time I replaced the sockets also to prevent any meltdowns (been there/done that with my 300TE).

I'm moderately happy with the results, and simply can't justify the expense of going the Euro route. However, I'm going to Germany in June...

I guess this answer lies truly in what you want to spend. I will say that the PIAA superwhites that I just popped into my '92 300D seem to work adequately too, so given that they only require 45/65 to operate I'd say they may be the way to go.

Good luck, and keep the shiny side up!
