Hell Yes!
![]() Workin' late into the night doesn't feel too bad when things are finally going right, eh? ![]() How good does that lady sound?!?! You've destroyed the idea that my euro M116 was the best MB motor I'd ever heard w/o the requisite exhaust system... Damn well done, sir. PS: Bring someone along to document the maiden voyage!

Keep it sounding like that, it sounds really exotic.

OK I started the engine. So the big short lived harra is over. Now its time get the power to the pavement. At minimum couple of things need to be done.
I still need a radiator. 48 tooth rear wheel speed sensors wheels are required for the transmission at minimum. If ESP turns out to be required then the 96 tooth front wheel speed sensors will have to be converted to 48 tooth sensors. IF ESP is required then the entire ESP system will need to be hooked up. This is not as challenging as my first impression led me to believe. The main challenge will be the steering wheel angle sensor. In parallel one thing that is definitely going on is the larger (actually humungus) SL600 brakes are being installed. This is actually simpler than expected. The only custom fabrication here is rear hats, with parking brake drums for after market bolt on rotors. The following is going on right now: I purchased a used 450SL radiator but it appeared to be more used than I cared for. So I sent that one back. A new 450SL radiator is about $715 so I have decided to go custom aluminum with twin 11" low profile electric fans. I'm a bit tired of ordering used radiators that don't show up or look like the attached photo. The plan for the 48 tooth rear wheel speed sensors has several possibilities. 1) I already have RFQ's out for the fabrication of the wheels in the attached picture. 2) I can take a 48 tooth standard gear and just shave the teeth half flat. I already tried to tried purchase these gears but the company is out of stock I will give them a call Monday. 3) I will ask Roman to make them in Sweden. 4) I can purchase a rotary indexing table from Enco for about $500.00 and make them myself. For ESP it turns out that the 129 hubs and steering knuckles will fit right on the 560SL only (Not the earlier 107's) with a few minor modifications. You have to cut off the upper attachment points on the 129 knuckle as shown. I suppose you don't have to, but I'm a perfectionist, counter bore two holes in the 129 knuckles for the 107 alignment pins. I have a 41/64ths drill on order for this now. I tried to use the 129 hubs on the 107 knuckles today. I got new bearings, seals and MB green grease. I did the whole job only to find that it doesn't work. Missed by a tiny bit. So new seals and grease are on order. The 129 hubs will give me the 48 teeth I need for ESP. They will also help me get my speedometer either working correctly or off by a factor of 1/2.

Yes and no but nothing to show. It's too hot to work on cars. If you go to the discussion on big brakes for the 126 you will see my SL600 brake installation onto the 107. I had my toothed wheel design sent to China for fabrication I'm going to have to wait for those to come in on some slow boat. That may take a while. I have located a radiator builder, he wants 680 to build it. So I will have to have an E-bay sellathon of 129 parts to pay for this. The radiator is the last "big ticket" item I'm aware of that I need to purchase. Then I really do need to reupholster my seats they are shot. So I'm hoping to do $1500 in sales next month. That will take care of the radiator and upholstery.
I also located a guy with a Star Diagnostic System that may be able to reprogram the Transmission controller. So the work ahead is clear cut but significant.

Today was a total clean up day. No work done on any cars. It's too hot. It was also too hot to clean up but I did it anyway. I have a car show I'm going to try to make September 14th. This show will be at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford CT. This year Sikorsky Aircraft contracted with Orange County Choppers to build a Sikorsky bike. It came out very nice and it will be at the show.
In any case the V12 560SL needs completion and massive cleaning and the stock 560SL need massive cleaning. I got just under 3 months. Tasks for completion at least to driving point are: Purchase and install radiator. Fabricate and install expansion tank. Fabricate and install engine bay and exhaust heat shields. Remove all wiring cut to length as required re-tape and reinstall. Install 2 wiring bulkhead connectors. Install SL600 brake master and booster. Install the full ESP system. Install Evaporator/Heater core. Reassemble Interior. Register and Insure vehicle Drive in limp home mode to guy with Star Diagnostic system and hope this guy really can reprogram the trans controller. What could go wrong???? Here are the cars sitting in the freshly cleaned shop getting ready for show time.
