I'll be an AMG owner in about 7 weeks. I've got an '02 SLK32 AMG on order. It's Firemist Red metallic with two-tone Alpaca(Ash)/Charcoal interior and Xenon lamps. It was built 2nd decade of May so it should be on a boat and ready for the July 16 retail release date.

A terrific car, even with "new" MB problems...

Would you consider a 1988 300TE wagon with SportLine suspension (bushings, front swaybar, springs), a 500E rear swaybar/bushings, 500E brakes (front & rear), 500E wheels, and a 1995 AMG C36 M104 engine, transmission, and differential considered an AMG car, Mercedes Sportline, or a damn bastard?

Everything but the front & rear spoilers (Brabus) can be ordered and serviced by my Mercedes dealer.

Take care,

:-) neil

I have an '02 AMG Designo (Cognac) ML55 in the system, and should be seeing it around September, or so.

I don't know if that makes me "brethren", but I am sure it makes me sardonic enough to play one on TV.

AMG Parts

Mark,

I am suffering the same issue.

I am having a time finding anyone who sells AMG parts. The most important thing for me is the suspension. Trouble with the suspension is that I want the Euro springs/suspension rather than the US e55 suspension.

The AMG modifications that I have been looking for are:

Front/Rear Aprons (approx $1500-2500 for both)
Side Skirts (approx $500-1000 for both)
Exhaust (approx $500-1500)
E55 18" Wheels (done -- $2500 w/ tires -- Tirerack.com)
Suspension ($1000???)
Brakes (thinking of non-AMG movit.de porsche brakes -- approx $3-6K)

In all, it should be around $10-15K completed. Simply, I have no idea where to get the stuff. And the dealership would much rather slit my throat than try to help me. Most parts shops are only lukewarm in dealing with AMG parts.

In short, if you need parts, buy a porsche.

So, if you come into some lucky parts group who is workable and able to locate and sell the parts, let me know.

http://www.performances.com have been quite helpful when emailed about AMG parts request for my 500E (such as suspension, body kits, etc.)

They're up in Canada, but it may work....

Never gotten around to actually purchasing though but since they were nice enough to respond, I thought I'd try to throw some business their way...

Hope that helps...

'99 E55 Silver w/ black/silver interior. 43,057 miles. tinted windows, black bird's eye shifter. Michelin tires.

( I just started the customization process and am planning on getting new wheels, AMG door sills, rear spoiler w/ light, and all the chrome parts I can find. I've ordered a lot from Oberklasse but haven't received them yet. ) I also am going to get the black bird's eye door handles and chrome shifter frame.

Mark,

You might troll around http://forums.rennlist.com/ web boards. There are people who would probably be interested in that car or can help you out with leads on selling.

I just hope that was 155kph. heh

Trying to source the AMG rear self-levelling suspension is a total PITA.

Hopefully, Eddy from http://www.performances.com in Canada can help. Eddy is a well known Mercedes racer in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Since I have the older W124 wagon, I went to Brabus and ordered their high-performance rear self-levelling suspension.

We shall see if it's better than Mercedes SportLine . . .

Responses to rollcall

Based on responses to date, we have two C36s, four C43s, five E55s and one CLK55 on the board, plus a 300TE with a C36 motor and an ML55, SL55 and SLK32 on order.

Looks like this confirms the relative rarity of the true AMG cars, at least here. For comparison, see re the 500E/E500: 500E owner Roll Call
