Well, if you stop after some full throttle runs idle will smooth and no blow by. but just as the engine cools down a bit it get a rough idle with miss fires and some considerable blow by.

power was still gr8 though. but i figured since i am getting a new car so why not just park the w124 and have it proper fixed.

Thanx Joreto,

So what company makes the internals for the M102? they might make for the M103.

Jay

Try Mahle and JE...
Mahle may make the forged piston in their Powerpak range.
JE may require a sample piston to fabricate the new forged pistons.

Jay, for the 2.5-16v I looked into parts (H-beams and pistons, the piston b23 piston are also mahle forged "P" index, but cost way less then 2.3-16v pistons) for volvo B23 , B230 ft , as they work in the 2.5/2.3 - 16v with little modification . Here is one link to one site that offers H-beams for the 16v mercedes -> http://www.stenparnermotor.com/default.aspx?NodeId=42 , I'll dig up the other this evening . Btw anyone measure the conrod CC of the m103 ?

P.S. Roman (Pumpish) also offers con rods and pistons for the m103 engine.

Joreto,
i dont think i'll be going for new conrods, unless they look like they have taken some heat, as for the pistons, well i have contacted my friend who imports merc spare parts and who has good contact with mahel.
He told me that they offer forged pistons and he will ask for prices and availability for my M103.

Go for a single turbo man, i am sure its pretty much less complicated, and you will make my way easier when i start with my W124
Did they open the engine yet? take a picture once opened

the engine was opened today, turns out the pressure ring on piston one is broken, the piston and the other 5 are in gr8 condition but on monday they r to be sent to the machining shop along with the crank and conrods to be checked for proper measuring.

there is no need to go over bore as the sleeves are in gr8 shape. If u think abt the M103 is the god of all engines, i mean it has covered almost 390000km!!! yet still in gr8 shape.

good news is am sticking with it being turbo charged.

On Monday i should have some pix to post, i just hope the pistons needn't changing, that would help me to better spend on the turbo setup. Question is; did the ring break due to its age? on the day it broke i had no knock but the engine had suffered tremendous knock when the kit was first installed.

Any way i was told that all the rings offered by Mahle are chrome plated, i cant say if this info is accurate nor can i tell if chrome plating offer more strength. I would assume it should,
But like i always say; assumption is the mother of all F#$K ups.

Here are a couple of oix of the engine and the pistons, i'll try and get some more today

but the engine pic clearly shows the cylinder groves made by the factory, amazing when you think of the mileage this engine has covered.

Well i have found a front mount IC, but dunno if it will fit, even more is i dont know if the car will have a turbo on it. i know i will kick my self either way, with a turbo and with out. Its just that factoring in the way i drive along with the nature of the roads here i know it will break sooner than i would like.

alot of work needs to be done to have the car be reliable and i am not up to it.
Who knows maybe lateer on ill go for it again, but for now it seems am back to N/A. And the New AMG is good enough as an all rounder that more than makes up for the lack of power.

My eyes water every time i think abt this

In the end I gained a lot of experience on how it should be done and what needs to be done, I also learnt a lot about the CIS and how it can be tuned.

hahah, ya but think of it as the life blog of this W124

Any ways, the project ran me thin on time, it was a WIP all the time.

I know i will regret this, but if i free up later on, i know exactly what i need to do and how it should be done, and the install wont take me more than a day.

You said it ur self in another thread, you don't even want to drive behind your car so as not to know if its smoking or not.

"that sucks about burning oil, the answer to that is dont follow your car and watch and youl never know! im not sure if my one is but it doesnt use any on the dipstick and i cant see smoke in the rear view, apart from this one time when i was parked up at the whalf in aucks haha jks

cars goin alright tho, but like you its always a work in progress, still cant get enough fuel, i have to wire in the injectors individually to the greddy for better control and get a map sensor, this is the next project,
but when its going good she hauls pritty well, i ment to do the wiring this week at night, but its already at Thursday doh, and i goin out on my mx bike all weekend, so maaaayyyyb next week,"

My car ran great in its last couple of months, yet it broke a ring while i had no knock nor was it even close to being lean. That really was what got me reconsidering the whole thing, maybe i used a bit more water in my alcohol mix than i should have (mind u i never went over 70% alcohol, 30% water), maybe it was the age of this engine. Add to that the work need to go to a single setup and the fact that to keep the turbo i needed a gearbox rebuild. i dont care much abt spending money, as long as i can afford it, but an expected bill of almost 4000USD on a 1992 W124 is an eye opener. Things just added up and i needed to step back and take a break. I know I will go turbo again on this car, but this time I will have everything ready.
