can you get a clutch disc setup with a sprung center? maby just go for a single plate with a heavy clamp pressure plate, and sprung center disc and make the flywheel out of mild steel, also with the m104 if you make the flywheel too light you will get engine resonance/vibration through the car,
sup,Hows resonance in yours these days with that super light FW?

On the topic of lighter FW's,I dont race cars nor build them professionally but modification to my M111 with a lighter FW definitely exaggerates vibration under load and at the critical harmonic point(~2500 in my case),yes the I6 has much much better balance due cancellation of the rod/piston speeds but like any piston engine it will still produce vibration/torsion under heavy load,so a lighter FW will exaggerate this.

Alright, I made a slight mistake, would still need a steel insert if I make an aluminum flywheel. No biggy.

I dropped USD$200 on one of these triple plate badboys yesterday including shipping to Oz.

I might end up making some changes, like converting to twin "rally" plates instead of the triple sintered metal plates for slightly in=mproved user friendliness.

Flywheel inspiration:

This could be interesting...........

This clutch will be more suitable for a later phase of the project when I get serious about the engine build, but I don't want to have to muck around doing it twice, so I'll give it a go upfront. If it really is ****, then at least I won't have invested too much in it...

Oh, yeah, your M104 threads have my attention too......

that is a sick clutch, a friend of mine has one in his sr20det, pushing out 3-400hp, he can do third gear launches and light up the wheels, the thing is like a switch

sprung pucks are also avalible for that type of clutch, i just wish i'd got them in mine! once you get use to the bite, pull offs are quite good, bit of wheel spin, and away you go.

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

I love getting parcels delivered at work (mostly so my wife doesn't see them of course....)

I think a trip down the road to my local clutch specialist to discuss some options for making this a little bit friendlier are in order. Like this hopefully:

Update: I found a really clean R154 Toyota transmission. I'll be starting the modification adventures soon. I'm not sure how exactly i'm going to mate it up... We'll see.

Supra owners in Lebanon

Hey JayRash,

Actually there are 6 supras in Lebanon.
3 black ones of which 1 is an NA auto, the other is a 5-speed NA and the 3rd is a TT auto.
1 white supra which was originally an auto tranny, but its owner switched it to 6-speed getrag.
& 2 red ones, both TT, 1 is a 6-speed and the other is a 5-speed for now (of which I am the proud owner! )

There also was another 2 NA's (1 auto & 1 5-speed) but they're both in Dubai now.

Anyhow, ur right about not finding a 6-speed getrag in Lebanon. But u can get one from the UAE and rebuild it. That's what I intend to do.

Good luck.

What do the computers do or respond with you take away the auto transmission?

Lolwut?

It depends on the engine, transmission, and chassis.

The PCM/ECU might communicate with the TCU or transmissio computer in event one were to fail or go into limp mode.

As you know Mag I'm considering a 3000 lbs W203 sedan or coupe but am seeing really good prices on automatic transmissioned ones and could easily absorb the $1500 in a manual trans swap as I'd be doing a new clutch considering some may learn to drive their first manual in the entry level MB.

The early 2000 W203 uses either 716.633 or 716.638 manual transmissions which matches up ith the M111 mentioned above.

Thanks for your input.

Does the W203 not run a CAN/BUS system? If so there would be a bunch of work involved to allow the ecu to function fully without the transmission communication. It would be best if you had the schematics for the car (FSM) so you would be able to tell exactly where signals from the transmission controller originate and where they lead to.
It might even end up being more worth your while to start with a manual car, whichever it may be and go from there. I'm not well versed on the CAN/BUS setup.
The older cars with CIS have it easy. There is one connector to the transmission with 5 wires, the two smallest are connected to the manual backup switch while the park/neutural switch is wired to a button on the clutch or just separate via a relay. This allows the relay to be open while driving, removing the revlimiter and all that jazz, and closed while starting, allowing cranking of the engine.
