Diesel-Head wants to know about spark plug wires
Is there anything special about plug wires? Can I replace them with a piece of solid copper wire from the coil to the plug?
I'm in the process of "rebuilding" my Kawasaki 440 over the winter.

Sure you can, if you want sparks shorting out if you use ordinary wire.
You can buy lengths of plug wire from parts stores like NAPA , wire type or resistive core, along with end fittings.. Most bike wires are resistive carbon core but some are wire core with resistors that screw on or plug on. You'll find this interesting: http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/truth.htm
