What's the best color for an SL?
I'm pretty fond of my burgundy 1993, but also like the teal green.

I believe in a book I read, perhaps by John Olson, consensus had it Silver was first, Black second and Red last of all the colors available.

BTW, are there any cops on the forum? I've never heard anyone admit to that, but I'm curious.

RED RED RED RED RED I always see red when I hear that!
All the modern metalic colours are great but I've sat in carparks where a whole row of cars was Silver (I've a silver Peugeot 406 "every day car" by the way) and the greens look good on a modern motor:
BUT When you're talking about a classic car (I include the 107 SLs in this) I think they look "re-sprayed" I have a theory: British Roadsters should be British Racing Green (Morgans and MG's) or Light blue (Sunbeams and Healey's) Italian roadsters Red or Light Blue AND German Roadsters (That's MB's) MUST be RED Well I like mine anyway. - have a look if you dont agree: http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jim.coley@btinternet.com/slideshow2?.dir=5661&.beg=17&.src=ph Cheers Jim

Very nice, Jim
Yours looks great. I agree with you on the green for British cars. However, I think red and yellow for the Eye-talians, and silver and black for the Germans. Sorry, light blue doesn't do much for me.

Have you never seen a light blue Sunbeam Alpine or Bugatti - they seem to fit somehow - but a Bugatti fits in any colour anyway.
Cheers Jim

Color
My father's is silver w/ blue interior. I like it.
Mine is black, and here in the south (Texas) Black is HOT. I wish to change the color but not silver (I have tan interior). My favorate color is CLEAR, but I had a truck and I can't find it. |

You're absolutely right they all look great. But should I keep it light ivory, light ivory, dark brown? The soft top is first, so what color should I do the soft top in? All answers will be appreciated.

Light ivory looks great: it is so unusual and of course it is a correct period colour. It would be such a shame to change a correct 1970s or early-80s beige, ivory, light saffron--whatever--car to, say, 744 brilliant silver.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Tha only concern I have really is the dark brown soft top. I like it, but in Texas it can be very H:fork_off:T on the top.

I can believe it: I've got a brown top here in northern England and it gets murderously hot in there. I tend to park with the roof down (I know, I know, it's not insured) or park in the shade.

What about a couple of the tans I've seen? One is supposed to be a more caramel color?

Personally I'm a sucker for originality, but I can appreciate your predicament in the Texas sun... As long as the material is original spec (Sonnenland, I think), I'd go for a mid-shade. I say that because (1) the lightest colour may go grubby really quickly and (2) the mid colour will offer some contrast with your paint job. What colour are your seats?
