Hello, I am thinking of increasing the tire width to 225 on my standard rims (205/65/15). The rims are the standard 15 hole design, and the car is an 89 300se.
Should I have any problems putting the wider tires on? and will it have any bad effects on handling?

Thanks very much for all your help,

Firestone FireHawk SH30s in 225/60/15. They will fit fine, shouldn't have any problems. We have recommended it to many MB owners. Offers a wider footprint, no adverse effects, better handling. TireRack sells them for $70 each. They are H-rated, handle great in wet and dry, and be a great improvment for a heavy vehicle such as yours. Going anything more performance bias would harm life of the tires you choose, and not offer that much more in performance aspects dues to your car still being on 15" wheels. After all Aspect Ratios do matter.

Thanks for the info Charlie. I've decided to keep my 300se, instead of going for the 190. I'm going to have to cope with the running costs, I can't bear to lose the car!!

Cheers

You can use a 225/60-15 on your W126 without any problem. And overall grip will improve do to the added footprint width.
Thanks, Luke

One more thing, what difference, cosmetically will there be going from 65 to 60?

Thanks
