Michelin is sure making it confusing to purchase tires. From what I have read in the forum archives, and heard from friends with 123 cars, the MXV4 Plus is an enthusiasticly recommended tire. The tirerack.com sales rep says they have only the MXV4 in 195/70/14, but not the 4 plus, and that I must switch to 15" rims to run that tire I was under the impression that these tires are the same, and that Michelin has been changing the name for marketing. Yet, the MXV4's are cheaper than the MXV4 plus / Energy MXV4 Plus.... Any first hand experience here? Thank you, wise forum.

Luke,
First off, they are all three great tires. They are the same tire, but in several generations. Each generation IS significantly improved over the past in one way or another. Mostly being quieter, better handling, longer wear, less rolling resistance (which = better gas mileage), basic touring tire traits.

The MXV4 was first, the Energy MXV4 followed, now there is the Energy MXV4 Plus. I believe the Energy MXV4 had a lower rolling resistance and hence improved gas mileage and ride over the MXV4. The latest Energy MXV4 Plus has treadwear advantages over the past generation with seemingly equal or better handling.

Hope this helps...Lee

I definitely recommend the Energy MXV 4 Plus tires!! They are lightyears ahead of the last generation MXV 4's. These are probably the quietest tires I've ever had on a car.

Thanks gentlemen for your input The "Energy MXV4's" according to the Michelin website are available in 195/70/14. For the "Pluses" they step up to 215's. However, our local tire vendor has the "pluses" in 195. So it appears Michelin's site has not caught-up yet.
