Here again is the post:

Here is a nutshell history of the Iraq War:

1) Saddam offered everything short of performing fellatio on George Bush if he didn't invade. The UN said he shouldn't invade, and UN Weapons Inspectors said he didn't have to invade.

2) Bush invaded them anyway.

3) The occupation has been an adventure where words like "incompetance", "disaster" and "catastrophe" don't even begin to cover what happened.

4) We are left with 30% of the American people who support the war, none of whom who could put into a single paragraph how the security of America has been enhanced or the lot of the country was improved by the war, while millions can easily write pages on how it has been damaged.

If you support this war, see if you can do #4
I dont know, uhhh, have we killed and captured any al quiada?

That also sounds like it is an enhancement to the security of the Israeli people, not those of the US. Still waiting.
You are making the assumption that Israel would take care of any issues with Saddam. That's probably a stretch. And, whether they did, or whether they didn't, the fact that he would get to the point of triggering such action will necessarily destabilize the region. Now, how that will directly affect the U.S. is very unclear. If the oil supply is interrupted due to violence in Iraq, then this could have an adverse affect on the U.S. long term.

It's all conjecture, but, you can't dismiss it out of hand.

couple that with

It could also be an expensive message being delivered to the other 'nuclear' powers on the rise that (17.) "we are crazy and you had better not mess with us" as part of an official (18.) "backroom foreign policy", that is being implemented by both parties. Don't want to develope a case of the Chamberlain's.

You asked for a paragraph; most of w's followers can't put a sentance together - although most on this board are not in that gene pool.

Mark

The Iraq issue has been defended and criticized to DEATH, both here and EVERYwhere else, for that matter.

I could write another one of my long-winded diatribes about why I support our presence there (much to the dismay of many of my fellow Libertarians), but what's the point?..... No one here is going to change anyone's mind, after all this time.....

Matt just wants to stir the hornets' nest.... He's just bored or something.

Several of us long-time members here have written VOLUMES on this subject, matt..... Do a search. A lot of it was probably lost to the temporary closure of the Open Discussion forum, but a lot of it is probably still there...

Regardless.... I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince the un-convinceable.

Mike

Libertarians would be dismayed cuz you can't be in favor of imperial conquest coupled to the requisite massive federal expenditures with no end in sight and still call yourself a libertarian--kinda similar to why I can't call myself a libertarian cuz I don't believe in unfettered capitalism.

Well, the main thing about Libertarianism that appeals to me, above ALL else, is the strong support for FREEDOM and INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY.

I was under the impression that this included FREEDOM OF THOUGHT, and being at LIBERTY to say what you think, without being shouted down and excommunicated when your thoughts don't strictly adhere to the official party dogma.

Apparently a lot of those who CLAIM to be Libertarian don't see it this way.

I don't care about the LP apparatchiks, I'm referring to the libertarian movement, which is predicated on some fairly core values; imperial conquest and massive unaccountable federal expenditures aren't one of those values. I believe in a mixed and regulated economy, so I don't make the cut either.

Concerning the "unaccountable federal expenditures", I STRONGLY agree with you.

However, where you see "imperial conquest", I see us acting in the interest of our security, societal, and economic interests. I'm sure this comes as no surprise to you.

I don't believe in ENTIRELY unregulated capitalism.... but almost!
