Leinies aren't that bad really, better than Old Milwaukee. I actually has some New Glarus beer from WI the other day. Quite good. I'm like you, really cut down the beer the last two years. Can't seem to drink much these days. That's a good thing right?

I live in a dump! I have no grass to moe, only a weed whacker once or twice a year just so I can clear the weeds from under several old cars that are up on blocks, and around several engine blocks, transmissions, rear ends, and other miscellaneous auto parts strewn including four old washing machines, a pile of old outboard motors in baskets, along with coffee cans filled with head bolts rusting in water that has a green algae growing! All line or are laying about that line both the front yard and back yard approach to the doors, which have years of grease around each door knob! If this isn't bad enough, don't go inside the house, it's crowded in there with only a pathway between boxes, old rugs, damp dark and dingy! Good thing for roach motels!

I had to erect a fence because the neighbors complained more than 15 years ago, now the EPA is on my case for several 55 gallon drums, as well as a small fortune in used motor oil in 5 gallon plastic pails, that are stacked four and five high along the fence!

My dog's love the old 300D, it's their own private dog house, but beware, their

Howdy BusyBenz,
If you lived out here in the desert you wouldn't need the fence to hide the stuff cause you would fit right in. But you would need the fence to keep your friendly neighbors from stealing your valuable stuff :-)

" Austin85]Gosh that sounds like a bad part of Seattle... I visit old buds there and it's always fun...although there are darker sides of town..and they complain about the overpopulation ....One friend lives on Whidby Island...with a lake in her backyard....on the island...Is the most serene place I've ever been to...."

According to local statistics this neighborhood isn’t a high crime area. Of course about 3 miles to the south, an area called White Center is one of the highest crime areas around here. In that area shootings are so typical as to be considered almost common. Many folks from that area prowl the adjoining neighborhoods. The neighborhoods surrounding White Center are in effect feeding stock for the crack heads, I guess. The whack job neighbors with the dog had someone come up to their house last summer, open their garage door and take a lawn mower during broad daylight, while the folks were home! The thief was apprehended at the gas station, filling the tank on the mower. The gas station is across the street from the new police station. Wanna bet the guy didn’t spend more than a couple of hours in jail?

Seattle has a lot of crime, or so I’ve read. As one example, the city rates as one of the highest incidents of car theft in the nation. I read recently that a car thief has literally no chance of going to jail unless they’ve been caught and convicted 7 times. Makes you wonder what the cops and judges do other than to generate revenue by processing traffic tickets.

Of course there are thieves and then there are thieves. Our city council has hired a new politician to try to keep the local monorail project from dying. It stalled previously because the financing plan obligated the city tax payers to something like 11.5 BILLION dollars to pay for a 2.1 BILLION dollar project. Worse, the projected revenue sources were all but made up out of thin air. The payment comes right out of fees collected for car license tab taxes. The financing period was 50 years! As if the monorail would even last that long. The folks who run the city are such unabashed thieves it explains why they look upon mere car jackers as being irrelevant. The new politician suggested getting rid of the severe earthquake protection employed into the monorail track system design to cut development cost.

In part because of all this, I don’t consider theft all that unusual. I’ve had stuff stolen from me starting when I was 4 years old, and continued about once per couple of years ever since. The part of the neighborhood that has disillusioned me is due to the relentless displays of indifference, belligerence and outright violence; most especially those of the city and county governments, but certaintly no less due to the whack job neighbors....

Hey I used to like them Leinies ! Lived and worked in WI all my life but after I retired in 98 I pulled the plug on the state with 2 seasons ! Jan. and Aug. I moved down to the Smokie Mts. of western NC ! AKA the Bonnies ! I have not looked back. I love the Mtns and the folks down here are mighty nice. Another nice thing besides the folks and the climate is I gots lots of twisty roads to hang out my E420! Also they are not trying to be the highest taxed area of the state either. We are getting more retirees coming into the area.

OK - I have lived in many different areas. DC - San Francisco - Miami. I am now in Guatemala, Central America. I love it here! Spring weather all year round. Difference is raining or not raining. Right now we are in the rainy season. Starts to rain in the afternoon and then usually stops by sundown.

As for where my house is, I am in the city, technically, but on the verge of the suburbs in a residential area - no stores around only houses - on a mountain. From my back yard I have a 250 degree view of the city that is probably about 300 meters lower in altitude than my house.

Other than that - food is good and domestic live in help is affordable - one of the main reasons why my lazy a$$ decided to move here.

Oh - almost forgot to mention - San Salvador is 3 hours away - great sea food and cheap! And Mexico is also 3 hours away - great "real" mexican tacos - and also cheap!

I am gonna take a cram course to learn to speak Dutch.
The first time I was there; Amsterdam; was for 6 days, on business.
I had such a blast in that time I slept a total of maybe 10 hours.
Shouldn't have left. It was painful to get in the cab to the airport.

Oh, the humanity !!

Hawaii:
I can add what I know about Maui as a place to live. I stay mostly near Lahaina so my knowledge is incomplete. The locals are very laid back. Maui’s cash crop is no longer pinapples. They were probably too hard to keep lit You can get a contact high at the yacht club from the smoke drifting in from Front Street (main drag).

Sometimes in the Summer it can get up near eigthty degrees.
In the Winter it might get down into the mid sixties. No chance of frostbite.
We do get snow and low temperatures up on the top of Haleakala near the observatories.
The night sky is full of stars.
Prices for staples here are higher than Stateside.
The scenery is second to none and the hiking is memorable.
Beaches, surfing, diving.
The police are friendly and ever helpful.
The sport fishing is fantastic.
Cute little tourist women come to the local bars to get lei’d (Sport forking is fantastic too
And oh yeah, what’s a block heater for?

SoCal:
Always something to do no matter what time of day or night.
No chance of frostbite here either.
Beaches. Surfing. Diving. Fishing.
Nightclubs to prowl like the Whiskey or the Troubador or countless others born off the Sunset Strip.
Pretty women everywhere.
Great roads and freeways if you know how to avoid the commuter rushes. (Ever been 200MPH on a freeway?)
Canyons to carve. In the Winter you can ride motorcycles in your shirt sleeves.
Hundreds of great restaraunts.
Theme parks. Water parks.
Griffith Park and the zoo and observatory. The Lasarium.
The police here will kill you if they get a chance.
I think the stars are there but the air blocks the view
And oh yeah, what’s a block heater for.
