My 1995 E420 doesn't fully cover the original footstep similar to the photo posted. It does cover it slightly more, but you can still see part of the original two-chrome strips. The passenger and rear door sills all fit fine however. I thought mine hadn't been installed properly and just needed some adjustment, but I haven't attempted to see if it can be corrected. Does anyone know if all the Special Editions have this same poor fitting problem?

Someone last year started selling after market stainless door sills for some Mercedes models. Has anyone seen these and if so, how do they fit?

Maybe there are some people who didn't respond, but it seems we have 14 400E/E420's on this board...so takin' into account that there are 3271 members from what I see, we represent approximately 0.428% of the M-B population on MercedesShop!!! I guess we're a rare breed...I guess I'll update the list as people respond...I think it is kinda neat to keep tabs on the 400E/E420 population...thanx guys!

There is actually a list of production #'s at http://www.mbusa.com but unfortunately, the furthest back it will go is '93, so it just missed '92. However, from the page, this is the info that I am able to piece together:

One thing I want to point out, is that there seems to be some misinformation/confusion...I'm flipping through the site that I gave brianw, and this is what I gather:

'92 400E = 4.2L V8 w/ 268hp, 295lb-ft, 10:1
'92 400SE/SEL = 4.2L V8 w/ 282hp, 302lb-ft, 10:1

'93 400E = 4.2L V8 w/ 275hp, 295lb-ft, 11:1
'93 S420 = 4.2L V8 w/ 275hp, 295lb-ft, 11:1

so it seems that with the rollover between '92 to '93, the E-Class 400's GAINED power, while the S-Class 400's LOST power...but it seems people are translating the loss of power in the S-Class over the '92 to '93 model year to also be true for E-Class...which does not seem to be true from the website...I dunno if the site is right or wrong...anybody wanna double check?...however, from the site, it would seem that BEFORE '93, the 400E and 400SE/SEL had two seperate versions of the 4.2L V8...

I also remember reading from magazines that '92 400E had 268hp, the one that I remember was a Road&Track long term test...where the writer compared the car to Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries"...that is all that I can recall...

I am also a proud owner of a E420 1995 Charcoal / Grey Leather interiors...

Now it is at the shop for some upgrades on wheels & tires, suspension, interior ( Burlwood / Leather Steering Wheel & Shift Knob, and Sill Plates ).

Ahhhh...! Before I forget, also I am replacing the blinkers with clear ones !

Will post pictures after the upgrades for your opinion !

Change over from1992 to 1993, 400E DID indeed get a HP boost due to different engine management(I think... can't remember exact)... 400SE became 400SEL in 1993, and indeed lost power(and all S-Class lost power), due to emission regulations...500E also LOST power from 1993 and on....again, due to regulations...
