Actually, most pool owners (here inTexas) have said that their own pools saw lots of use in the first year it was installed, and usage fell exponentially thereafter.

The playset ad in Craigslist has already gotten a few bites...

Go with a Japanese Water Garden...water falls, koy, the works...

Peaceful, back to nature...calms you and the sig.other after a day of turmoil...

As for me...a storm is rolling in like a few weeks ago...will open the shades and let ugly-sister of nature light up the room for the evening/morning...I like lightning when it's in someone else's neighborhood...

Then, Friday I'll finish the laundry, put on the cleanest, then wait for 1600...then head over for June Dairy Days in West Salem and be "Security Guy" for the evening 'til 2AM Saturday in the Beer Tent...

Then, pull a float in the JDD's parade, drop off the float and come back at 4PM 'til 2AM Sunday morning and play "Security Guy" in the Beer Tent...

My wife really wants a pool, we've got plenty of room for one. So I picked up one of those 18' inflatable pools with the pump & filter (which I euphemistically refer to as my poverty pool) and told her that I'm not touching it. If she wants a pool she's in charge of cleaning, testing and adding the chemicals, etc. which she does. She and the kids are in there constantly over the summer so my kids are probably in the right age range for getting good use of it for a long time. We're on year #5 with it so I guess once the funds permit we'll be putting in an inground, possibly next year.

With 48" sides the water is just the right depth for me to sit on the bottom with just my head sticking up out of the water, ready for beer. It's hard to beat on a 95* and humid day in the summer. I can see myself acclimating to the lifestyle quite easily.

AFA Friday goes, I'm taking my FIL and two oldest kids to the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins AA affiliate) game tonight. We've got a partial season package but this is the first game we've been able to make it to, my employees have used the rest of them. They've got a real nice, newer stadium and they really do put on a good show between innings to keep the kids entertained. A few watered down beers and a couple of hotdogs...summer must be here.

I like the water garden idea too. I tried running water from a garden hose into a bucket of water to see if it would mask the street noise. It's amazing how well it works. I'm going to build a mini pond with a waterfall in the front yard. I just have to get the right flow rate and drop so the water noise is strong enough. I'm thinking a double fall with the first dropping on splash stones and the second dropping in a pool and then recirculating.

BTW, I finished the fence posts

Swamp,

Last year I bought an inflatable pool for my son that was about 5' across and 12" deep. I even thought that was too much work. This summer we'll be frequently visiting our pool owning friends that live less than a mile down the road. Plus the little guy can run through the sprinkler at home.

Nice! I like those lights and caps.

I think anything is too much work which is why I put all non-monetary responsibilities on my wife's shoulders. One of our backyard neighbors always says that anytime they're in their pool that us or our kids are welcome but that just seems like a big imposition to me. I know what a handful we are!

Yep! It's Friday...time to put another nail in the week of dearth and dreariness at work...but for some of us...today will seem like Beer o'clock will never arrive...

I'm waiting to see if I can get someone to hike up a tower for me (properly insured and such), shoot some pics, measure a few angles and shimmy on down before the weather takes it to our backsides...

Looking at the radar - looks like I'm in for a big ol' bag of "It sucks to be me," around these parts...

Oh well, the expense check didn't bounce, so maybe I'll head south to Marquette, IA. and see if I can bring home more than I left with...

How's it going around this fine land today lassies and laddies?

This weekend, I am going racing in my wagon. A friends parents rented out a track for his birthday, and set up timed runs, so we can compete against each other, and see whos got the fastest car...

Its gonna be awesome.

Well this early bird caught the worm, I'm getting ready to watch the sun rise on this Fine Friday which promises to be packed with lots of exciting activities. Wash and wax the cars, spit and polish the silver and clean the lighting fixtures in time for my mom's visit. Then Sunday I get to play handy man and assemble 6 CPU carts for a friend of mine. WOOOHOOOOO. Have a good one ya'll.

Awesome ... I need some friends like that myself.

Good luck and don't forget to post your run times and maybe a pic of you lightin'em up off the line.

Hey mgburg ... here's hoping beer o'clock comes earlier than you thought.

It's cool, rainy and blah. It's setting us up for the forecasted record heat and humidity coming in tomorrow afternoon. Upper 90's and dewpoints in the 70's through Tuesday-Wednesday. If that weather weren't good for the golf fungicide and wetting agent business I'd despise it even more than I do. Swamp doesn't like swamp-a$$.

The Mrs. and I have our big IEP/Planning and Placement meeting with the school system today for G to determine our course of action for Kindergarten next year. YIKES-where did the years go? It's a little daunting-Superintendent, kindy teachers, school psychologist, OT, PT plus our advocate. At least I feel like I'm getting something for my tax dollars.

Finishing or nearly finishing the crown molding in my den tonight and this weekend, I hope. I'm going to do a studio portrait of my older daughter in her prom dress tonight, if I can get her to stand still long enough. Sunday I'll be attending her senior baccalareat (sp?) thing.

It seems like not so long ago I was at an orientation meeting for parents of incoming kindergarteners .. . .

Woohoo! Last Friday I was running with my tongue hanging out trying to get a big sealed bid into the state procurement office and made it with only 5-10 minutes to spare. Today I found out I will be getting that big order.

This is suddenly looking like it will be an exceptionally nice weekend. I hope everybody else has a good one, too.
