I'm looking forward to a very nice combination Christmas/New Year's celebration on Sunday with someone I don't see nearly enough of.

Also, I will hopefully be talking with my new boss sometime on Saturday. I'm expecting big things out of 2007. I hope all of us have a terrific new year. Being part of this forum during 2006 has been a great experience for me. Thanks for your hospitality!

Going to the city with some friends on Saturday then to a New Years Eve party at some other friends house on Sunday. My whole weekend is blown socializing. I would rather be in the barn, but for the sake of family harmony, I am socializing.

Which city is that, Doug? I don't know where "the north fork" is, unless it's the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.

Could save money by walking outside or some gyms have tracks indoors where you can walk. Treadmills are very high impact and can kill your knees worse than running on the roadbed.

It is the North Fork of Long Island. The south fork is the Hamptons. I call the North Fork the poor fork even though the average house price is like $570K. The city is New York City. It is kind of a New York snobbery thing to call Manhattan "the city" like everyone in the US would consider that the only real city.

I hope to get up to your neck of the woods one of these days, Doug. I've always wanted to see what's on Long Island. So far I've only been as for as some of the seedier parts of Nassau Co. like the medical examiner's office.

I was once in the habit of photographing light houses (there's an original idea) and hoped to make it out to Montauk and other ones along the way. Maybe I'll make it yet.

I hope you have a great time in "the city." Doen here people call Washington, DC "the city," as though there was no other city in the world. It must be a proximity-thing.

When I tell people unfamiliar with Long Island that I live in a little rural farming village on Long Island people think I am pulling their leg. The east end of Long Island is beautiful and there are several lighthouses. My wife was a photography major and went through her "lighthouse" phase. Now she likes taking photos of the kids, the dog and flowers. Her favorite venue for flowers is the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx or Longwood Gardens near Philly.

OMG I hate all this partying. Went to a clud last night, tonight I'm just chilling. I was going to head into the city tomarrow night to watch the ball drop. But I am going to my friends wild party insted! Tons of girls, his house is rigged with a sound system that is sweet, lots of drinks for a good buzz. I figure by 4am I'll be drunk stupid! After staying up all night I will go to work the next day.

If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger!

Treadmill schmedmill.

Before the twins were born I was an avid runner. I averaged 5 miles / day, five days / week. I travel a lot on my job, and noticed that I didn't feel as good when I changed my running routine on the road, so I decided I'd pack my running shoes and shorts and run on a treadmill at the hotels.

And did I ever humiliate myself. Maybe I'm not coordinated enough, or just don't have the specific skills to run on a treadmill. I just couldn't stay on it. I fell off the back more than a couple of times. My shoes would hit the side of the treadmill and I'd loose my balance. I tried to keep my cool and stare straight ahead, but it didn't work.

In desperation, I decided to look straight down at the treadmill and watch my footwork, and proceeded to get run right off the treadmill. I think more than a few people laughed at my expense.

After that I gave up the treadmill thing, and relied on the concierge or bellboy on plotting out a running route. Besides, it eats up time and breaks up the monotony when you're outside enjoying the sights.

Yeah, it sure is hard on the knees and hips. I use the twins birth as an excuse for not running, but I'll tell ya. It was hard on my body. I don't think I could have kept up with the routine much longer. Usually by the end of the week, Thursday or Friday, the aches and pains would catch up with me, and my co-workers would notice that I was limping. I probably had some kind of pre-arthritic condition in my hips and knees. I guess I just don't have a durable body because I see older men running all the time in my neighborhood, and don't understand how their bodies can handle it.

I suppose if I were to resume running, I'd have to run on alternating days or some other similar schedule.
