Let's take over Mexico AND Canada.

Taking over Mexico would be a lot easier. It would solve the illegal alien problem and for me there is an added benefit. If my wife and I ever divorced, I can't get the little plot of land that she owns in Baja. OTOH, if Mexico becomes the 51st state, I can then own land in Mexico and...if we ever divorce, her property becomes fair play for me....

Or, we can drill, horizontally, off Key West, and "steal" Castro's oil....

The funny thing is that, except for his vitriolic anti-Jew and anti-Israel stand, I might like GD...of course that is a big "except" but he seems like an otherwise nice kid...his chess thread was a valiant effort at getting our minds off all of this fighting....

Have there been proxy wars fought on this scale before?

Hezbollah is representing the Muslim world, Israel is representing the west. There is no way to monitor the resources flowing into either, and both sides are ignoring agreements to limit the conflict. Both sides have external backing for weapons, supplies, and equipment. But once their manpower starts to drop, what then?

Despite the carnage, many Arabs still support Hezbollah 100%. This even as their own lives are in shambles and their homes destroyed. Even if Israel manages to wipe out all Hezbollah activity is south Lebanon, how long before Hezbollah North sets up new artilliary to start over again, given its strong popular support?
