BTW, that W124 that you have for sale on eBay, is that the one you had all those problems with? Have you gotten all of them fixed? Seems like you put a lot of time and effort getting that car to finally run right.

I learned that my friend got the same ticket I got recently, but hear this! Her car was parked! She drives a new BMW, so she has no front plate or no holes to mount the plate on. But that's beside the point. Is it legal to cite a car for California VC 5200 when it is PARKED? Yes, this was probably in public space. I can understand if the car is illegally parked, has no visible DMV plate anywhere, or has an expired registration, but cited for having no front plate and parked legally and with rear plate and current sticker? This is the same city I got my ticket. Is this even legal?

Absolutely!!! California
requires a front license plate on the car. Period. No exceptions for parked cars are mentioned in the law.

If she bought a new car in California, it should have been equipped with the front license plate bracket. In this case she should proabaly go back to the dealer who sold her the car, show her the ticket, demand a free license plate bracket, and request that they pay for the ticket.

I bought my Mercedes as a certified pre-owned, and on one of the repair orders, it mentioned "front plate holder is missing -- install front plate holder"

Speaking of lame tickets. I recieved a ticket in Lake Geneva for backing into a parking space. What the hell is up with that! I could see the issue if it was on the street, but it was a parking lot. I made sure to feed the meter too. I paid the stupid $10 ticket.

Exclamation *** Keep them bolted on... ***

Back in '77, I was pulled over by WI.'s first female trooper (at least the first one I ever saw...).

I passed her on a 2-laner (properly, with turn signals and the whole 9 yards), and she lights up the cherries.

My front plate on the '69 Caprice had been ripped off by an automated carwash machine, so I had written to the state for a replacement plate and stuck the carbon of the MO in the window for proof of purchase/replacement.

When she queried me about not having a proper plate (I had a dark blue w/black lettering plate that stated "AIRBORNE"), I referred her to the carbon in the window.

She made me take it out, then hand her that plus my license.

She went to her vehicle and I waited for what seemed like 15 minutes.

She came back, handed me the carbon (she had folded the tape onto itself, so I needed to tuck it away 'til I could re-tape it to the windshield.) and my license, then left me...no warning, thank you or good bye. (*****!)

Anyways, WI. requires two plates...screw around with that and you get the final screw.

And if what I've heard is true, if a trooper in WI. lights up the cherries, it's going to start at over $200.00, and it only goes up from there.

I'm making sure my nuts are on tight!

If it took the plate off, did it take the paint off of the car, too. Sounds like car washes were pretty violent, back in those days. I remember dad replacing a mirror or three, and an antenna every now and then..
