Check out Stax Peppermill for dinner. One of my fraternity brothers owns that and several other restaurants in the area and in Charleston.

Good Tip - always like to check out the local fare. I am staying at Crowne Plaza, where is Stax in relationship to that hotel? e.g. close/far

EDIT Checked it out right down the street 1.7 m Hmm Broiled Grouper

I check this place out tomorrow or Friday night.

Just a fill in...stopping by the house to grab some duds, slapping some toiletries into a sack, then pickin' up the x and heading south to Decatur...MIL (No F'n goin' on, so don't go there! ) is still in the hospital and I'm not quite completely in the loop as to how the arterial-tests went...it has been confirmed that she's in an early/mild stage of pneumonia, but she got to the hospital soon enough that they're pretty sure that they can knock it down and have her out by Saturday or Sunday morn...as long as everything else checks out...

BUT, the x still wants to be down there w/her mom and I can see where she's comin' from...since she missed seeing her dad in the nursing home that she "long distance" worked on getting him into...and he starts getting along with everyone and wakes up on the root-side of the grass after being the best behaved that he'd been in over 5 years...just for that one day...she's hating herself for not being down there soon enough...

Some things just happen and there's nothing you can do or say to make it any different...cookies crumble and there's no 5-second rule to make them taste any better...

Had dinner at the Acme Oyster House followed by too many Hurricanes and a couple Absinthes from the Old Absinthe House. The "Huge Ass Beers" had nothing to do with it. Not a bad evening. I can see where the French Quarter could be bad for your health! Got a 6:30 breakfast meeting though so I've got to get my ass to bed.

Morning kiddies! (No infractions there, I hope! )

Anyways, I'll post on the trip a little later...I just wanted to bump this to today...I'm heading to MN. to pick up a tower climber, load the PU and head then to Colfax...I've got some dim bulbs (not that I are one! ) and they need to be replaced before some fly-boy hits the tower and makes a mess of the country-side (Don't worry guys...the FAA already has the NOTAM information... )

Anyways...stay warm...this spring weather...cool/warm/cool/warmer still/cooling off to zero...is starting to get on my nerves a little...I can't tell if I'm suppose to splash in the puddles, slide across them or fall flat on my back and "F'EN TWEAK THE HOLLY LIVING LOVING H4LL" out of my shoulder again and speak those delightfully dreadful words of pain at 0530 in the dark of morn... (I'd rather crack 3 ribs again in place of banging that shoulder!)

God! I hope Murphy didn't see me type that!!!

I'm deeply offended at the insinuation that I'm juvenile.

Nothing exciting on my end, still sorting through my post-New Orleans mess of worked stacked on my desk. Lots of quotes and submittals to type up, and check out this place while they're printing.

No kids games, dance classes, Scouts, or anything else going on tonight. I'm not sure what I'll do with myself.

Go have a beer or two in your man cave and pretend you don't have any responsibilities for a bit.

Sit in the TD in the garage? Sounds like a fine idea to me!

Dealing with pretty tame work stuff, trying to figure out how we're going to get house renovation stuff done in time (or get an extension from the FHA) since our contractor is in really rough shape (see this thread), poking about politely to try and find the best way to help John and his family (wife and two young kids), and stopping by my friendly local hardware store for some four way light switches now that I understand the difference between 3's and 4's and how they should be wired (and please, ignore the blister on my left index finger, the crispy texture of my DVM probe, and the funny smell in the air).

For reasons known only to, well, probably nobody, whoever re-re-re-wired the kitchen in our New Old House made it a point to ignore wire colors. So when I went to move the first of several ridiculously placed light switches last night, sparkage and smokage did ensue. Peeling things back further, I found blacks & whites crossed in some switches. Reds and whites crossed in others. One particularly exciting splice halfway along a wall (ran out of 12/3 romex mid-job, I guess):

12/3 (black, white, red, ground) running from the breaker box.
Two 12 gauge black and two 14 gauge white showing up at the light switch

Puzzled over this one for a while and finally said f' it, I gots lots of plaster and dry wall to patch anyway and started pulling yet another section of dry wall down.

Turns out the single 12/3 romex is spliced to TWO chunks of romex (one 14/2 and one 12/2).

12/3 black wire-nutted to romex 1 white.
12/3 red wire-nutted to romex 1 black.
12/3 white twisted and electrical taped to romex 2 black.
12/3 ground wire-nutted to romex 2 white.

So tonight will be round two of the Great Kitchen Re-Wiring exercise, alongside my able bodied assistant, the Darling Wife. Interrupted no doubt by another round of calls from BIL in Alaska as we try to get all of the documents together for the purchase of what has come to be lovingly referred to as The Cottage for Ma and Ed.
