Hell no--this year at my parents house in Cashiers (closest to, anyway), NC. Different side of the family. Let's just say I won't be cooking. Looks like I might get to ski a little, though.

I am going to my last Aunt's funeral tomorrow. In a strange way I am looking forward to it. She was a wonderful engaging person who always made everybody feel that they were very very important and valued as her friend or relative. She lived to the ripe old age of 93 and the last year or two has been largley unaware of things and not really living, so her passing was a relief. Although I will miss her, I will very much enjoy sharing stories about her with others who loved her.

I still have one uncle left....my dad's baby brother who was born when dad was 16.

Actually it turns out she was 91.

Her husband, my uncle by marriage, was a wonderful gentleman too, who always treated me with respect even when I was quite young. He flew in bombers in ww2 over europe. (Yikes!) He died 13 years ago. At the funeral today I met his brother and was talking with him and his offspring and I suddenly had a memory and said...."didn't uncle Don have a twin?....the brother said "yes...its me." Identical twins and Dean has outlived Don by 13 years.

He is now 95 years old and though he does not any longer perambulate he is quite sharp and looks great....and just like my uncle Don did.

I have been pondering how it must feel to lose your identical twin.

My uncle smoked and died of heart failure. Dean was a farmer, I suspect did not smoke and sleeps in the bedroom they both were born in 95 years ago! I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if my uncle Don learned to smoke while in the service.

The tobacco company provided free smokes to all the service men over there, IIRC.

They lived over near Napanee. Its interesting farm land with some rolling topo and lots of Amish carriages and handsome horses.

I think there was some kind of back-handed insult somewhere in there.

My brother and I had to book flights to Chicago for a co-op subsidized financial analysis on 12/3-4 and he forgot about it until today. The $118 roundtrip via Southwest tix to Midway from 2 weeks ago turned to $370 roundtrip into O'Hare. I'd imagine it's going to cost you a few coins.

Sorry to hear that, Tom. I hope you get to partake in some good story telling sessions.

No probably make the drive to Sugar or Beech. Hardly worth it, I know, but definitely not for MV or Wolf Laurel
