Mercedes to corvette???

Had a question, and trying to get some advice. I have a 1992 sel 600
(v-12) pretty clean I think 160,000 a ton of records also.

I'm SOMEWHAT thinking about selling the mercedes and getting a
corvette.. Somewhere between a 1997-1999 ( about the money I want to spend on a corvette)

Just wanted some advice on selling the mercedes, or what I should expect back for it? Maybe some advice on corvettes, or just any general advice?

I'm not sure if I'm going to do it but just wanted to hear what you guys thought?

You're going from a car that's tight as a drum to a rattle trap.

I know I'm going to get a bad response. I love my sel 600 don't get me wrong at all. Love to keep it for life. It's just filling up at the gas station is over $100 +
(4.65 a gallon x 26 gallon tank)

Parts/ repairs are alot. Spent probably 5,000 bucks on parts plus repairs in the 12-15 months or so if not more.

ANd over 2,500 dollars for insurance a year.

ONce again I love the mercedes but gas/repairs is really taking a toll on me. I have always been a chevy guy ( I have a 70 camaro z28 also) so I was trying to go to something else I know and can work on generally.

Any advice or anything? Come on guys. It's hard to find legit prices for 1992 sel 600's cuz I can't find any of them on craigslist or ebay or nothing, especially in the bay area or around here where prices are much higher. Anyone know a better place to check on prices for my car?

When that fine german product can run as fast as the vette, you might be right.

My 383 might have a few rattles and not as soft a ride but it more than makes up in the speed and acceleration department.

Yep love all chevy motors ( v-8 of course) prefer small block over big blocks though. 383 strokers are motors I always wanted to get into. Anyone know pro's and cons of buying a corvette not from a mercedes owner opinion?

And what about a good price or place to find info on 92 sel 600's?

Buy a Vette if that is what you want. If you enjoy the power and the handling, go for it.

Well I'm still not sure either way. I would have to sell the mercedes, and I can't gauge how much I can get for my car since it's hard to find prices on my exact year, make and model.

Any other corvette owners here? I'm not just going to make a hast decision I just wanted to start get the ball rolling and start thinking about it.

Vettes aren't my cup of tea (I like my W123), but they are a great value. I doubt that Mercedes can offer Vette level performance for anywhere near the same price.

Mine is noiser and harsher a ride. Even then, I'd take it over the 210 whenever I can if the wife is not with me. The power and handling makes it all worth while even if the ride costs me more in gas. If I had to drive 75 miles to work every day, I might as well have some fun while I am at it.

Thanks for the link to the corvette board I'm going to check it out. Just from browsing I think even a 97 or so corvette is going to be a little to expensive for me.

Your not going to get much for that S600, with gas up their and its mileage its going to be a hard sell.

I'm a MB fan I don't see a Corvette as an upgrade. If I wanted a fast two seater I'd get an SL, or a CL. I hate cheap melted plastic action men interiors and rattles.

I know they are fast, but even the late model Callaway blown Corvette I went for a ride in was cheap. Fast yes, but it was like ok can't use the power your going to go to jail, cruising sucked because its like cheap and screams mid life crises. Fast car though, I was told it had 650hp.

Back in HS my friend had a 1991 that we beat the crap out of, the only thing that car was good at was burn outs!
