Car got towed last night -- Its now got a clunk when braking

Well apparently I wasn't 25 feet away from the fire lane so I got towed.....I was afraid of my putting car where I had it the night before as it got egged...

...so after 3 hours of ridiculous rules and running around I get the back and the every time I push the brakes there is a clunking noise.

I have a receipt so I have their number. It did it on the way to the store every push of the brakes....then it stopped for the rest of the journey.

What should I do if it stopped on the way back? It was very pronounced on the first leg of the journey back home.

Was the emergency brake engaged when you picked up the car at the impound lot?

HI

As I mentioned in the other thread, I was a tow truck driver, What I would do is take it to your mechanic and have him look for damage. If he thinks the tow caused damage, get an estimate and go to the tow company and demand it gets fixed. They will have a mechanic who might look at it because believe me, they deal with this all the time. And as I said, where I worked, the management tacked on a fee to the drivers bill so they were happy to have damages. They made money coming and going.

Do it right away. Call the tow company immediately. This sounds like a city contact that they have, they probably make good money from it. If they don't take care of you, you can call the city. Everyone has a boss. I bet they don't want complaints to the city. Towing is a tough business so they will probably try to intimidate you, don't take any ****. If they damaged your car they know they have to pay for it. Don't let them tell you you signed a waiver when you took the car, that's bull*****. How can you sign a waiver before you see the car? That wouldn't hold up in court.

This is irritating because it did it on the way home....then stopped doing it....then started again...

...I mean that's going to be difficult to prove if it doesn't do it if I take it to a mechanic.

You still didn't mention how it was towed....was it flat bedded?

I've always wondered how that goes down if your car is locked sitting there....do they just drag it up the thing in park and/or with the parking brake on??

they use a dolly if there are wheels that won't turn, ie parking brake on or front wheel drive nose in to parking spot.

Question about how it was towed -- I have no clue. Woke up and it was gone.
All I know is that they had to grab the car from behind because I was up against my garage and the curb....

Ok well its going in today -- It stopped for a few days then yesterday its now clicking all the time during driving, no longer when braking.
It gets worse + clunks faster with speed.
Gonna have a local mechanic check it out and give me an estimate.

What if its a bearing or something? Couldn't they just call "wear + tear" on it?

Well I took it to a local mechanic and he said that he couldn't find anything wrong and suggested its just the tires that need an alignment and possibly the aftermarket brakes....Coincidence I guess?

(been having horrible experience with these aftermarket brakes I put on)...Lesson learned from that. What are the best rotors + pads available for my 300TE? The rears work great but the front's grind + squeak constantly even after putting on the anti-squeal shimmy + anti squeal paste....

Need to do my rear control arms before I can get an alignment....but at least I can be comfortable driving it now.
