1959 luxury cars... Cadillac, Lincoln, Imperial

Unlike the other poll, this is for the top of the line American cars for 1959. These are the middle trim line models, from the top of the line makes, which are the Cadillac Sedan DeVille, Lincoln Premiere, and Imperial (Chrysler) Crown.
There were even higher priced models from these such as the Cadillac Fleetwood sedan and the rare Cadillac Eldorado Brougham sedan, Lincoln Town Car and Imperial LeBaron Southampton (which I will show all seperately at the bottom of this post)

Cadillac Sedan DeVille:

Lincoln Premier:

Imperial Crown:

Eldorado sedan:

Fleetwood:

Lincoln Town Car:

Imperial LeBaron Southampton

The US auto industry has come a long way from these beauties......

Look at the current crop of Chrysler uglies.....

I liked the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham sedan the best of all those pics...the straight lines all the way back to the rear of the rear door, then the "wing" (if you will) just goes back and thins out to the tail-light...more like a vertical stabilizer than a wing...the rest of the sheet metal is straight and clean...

All the others break their lines by bringing the "wing" out from the body at, or near the driver's door and then to the back...

The Chrysler products "seem" to dip in the middle, as if to reduce the mass of the doors to allow the passengers access to the vehicle itself...the "straightness" of the lines doesn't exist from the side...it makes the car appear "weak" in the middle...

But, I'm just one voice...

You're going to get Mistress all worked up with all those Caddies! She loves those almost as much as Benzes.

I'm kinda partial to the Lincolns. I like that Mark IV Town Car.

I had the same reaction when I looked at the picture. Looked like it would break in half at the first bump.

But now with the addition of Fiat engineering....

It is guaranteed to break in half at the first bump.

I really like all of those Caddy and Chrysler products. Less a fan of the Fords. One thing that strikes me about all these cars is that they are cars that aren't afraid to exist. I like that.

I thought Le Baron was the upper trim level on the Imperial, not a separate model.

The '59 Caddy is one of THE icons of the decade of the fifties. You just gotta go for the fins!

The '59 Caddy, hands down favorite of mine. The interior was plush. Poshness at it's best with an engine that would fly!

The "stinkin' Lincoln" was close interior wise but it couldn't hold a candle to the Caddy on the open road.

The Chrysler interior was roomy and the car rode great but it seemed Spartan compared to the Caddy and the Lincoln.

The Caddy and Lincoln seemed to be designed for the passengers to never have to leave the car.

I remember a road trip to Washington D.C back in about '63 with my family. Four kids (12-5 years), my mom, dad and a new baby. When we kids got tired of fighting over window seats we would curl up in the passenger floorboards with a pillow and sleep.

I had to go with the ElDorado You cannot beat those fins and the twin rocket tail lights! Style inside and out plus all the luxury touches that made Cadillac the 'Standard of the World'

The Lincoln is a nice looking and running car, but it too understated to be the ultimate 1595 lux barge. I prefer the later slab sided Connies to the '59s

The Imperial (a separate division of Mopar in those days) was probably the best engineered of the bunch. It just doesn't take to the same place as the Caddy. I think that '59 was when they changed from the Hemi to the 413 Wedge.

What is missing is the 1959 Packard (I wish) Now THAT would have been a car...

I know, I know, it's not a 1959. But for fifties luxo barges nothing beats a 1955 Mark II IMHO
