All you need is uninterrupted sunlight. Like in a desert. Where you have to expend energy to import or desalinate water.

I agree...look at all the folks and wasted man-decades spent on finding that last single digit...and they haven't found it yet...

Now, they've gone and plugged in a computer to waste valuable electricity to help them figure out when and where (let alone WHAT...) that last digit will be...

Can't we all, just get along???

Anyone???

Wasn't a big part the advances in computers done on the taxpayer dime in the early days of the space race?

What about the manhatten project? Any weapons system for chris sake? All done on very favorable cost plus contracts If I am not mistaken.

The space shuttle? Things impossible for private enterprise to fund.

Think of where we'd be without nukular bombs.

I agree with you on one point, however.... The capitol has nothing to do with it.
Where do you think the origional research for the products you mention happened ???

And thanks for the spelling bee.

I doubt the accuracy of that statement.
The responsibility was shared.
It no longer amazes me the way that liberals can dabble with the economic system, and then deny any responsibility for what actually happens. I know the rule for liberals is that they wish to be judged on their motives, rather than their results. What a deal!
I contend that no one can foresee the unintended consequences; not even "the best and brightest" among us.

Just about every innovation in recent history has been partially funded by the government.
I'd be surprised if Palangi's co. never received a dime of government funds, but even if so, that doesn't mean every co. involved in solar technology development has not.

Current solar technology will not be a wholesale replacement for coal. I don't know anyone who has said so. Right now, it is efficient enough to provide individual buildings with more power than they use. It has a place. Wind energy has a place. Water mills have a place. Water currents don't ever stop.

It no longer amazes me that conservatives want to blame the government for everything, even when it deregulates, the holy grail of conservatism. Prophet Reagan got it wrong. Government is not the problem to our solution. Government removed the fence and capitalism marched right off the cliff.

I think wind, solar, oil, nuke, and coal will all need to be exploited. I am currently working on a wind turbine project of my own.
Once the idea gets a provisional patent, I will let the cat out of the bag ( I am a dirty rotted money grabbing Capitalist you know)
Most of New Mexico is well, empty. There is simply not enough water to support population growth in most of the state, in fact most of the people live within a few miles of the Rio Grande river, the rest of the state, especially the southern portion, is pretty much just scubby useless desert. There is no aquifer to drill into, there are no rivers to damn up, and it sure doesn't rain a heck of a lot.

But I think the real estate that should be exploited is the unending supply of suburban roof tops. There is one thing that seems like it could be invented but does not currently exist: a solar-powered air conditioning compressor. Texas, Florida and California consume huge amounts of fossil fuel to cool houses that are awash in sunlight most of the time. It seems to me that if this one invention existed, we would solve our energy problems over night.

Why don't we close the borders, repatriate the illegals and nip the next American "Baby Boom" in the bud?

I don't know who you think is going to work in order to pay your Social Security checks, heck, that's the whole reason they are here, they pay SS taxes, and will never see a check. In fact, you should give the next illegal you see your SS#, just so he can accrue for you. I've been handing mine out for years at the day laborer sites, you should see my lifetime income, it looks like an AIG bail out.

Dude,

You should not go around saying these things on a public BBS. After all some of us work for DHS in the Immigration Service...
