How much do Used lawnboys sell for? Are Lawnboys any good?

Okay so i have this Lawnboy 6.5 hp Silver series, commercial grade, variable speed drive; some one gave me (not running), and I got it running well. It has hardly been used. (model 10323)
I don't care for it because it smokes & stinks...(like my diesel)... But I think there may be a cult following for these things, so how much should I ask on Craigslist?

OR educate me.... is this a keeper?... Is this a quality mower I should consider keeping??... I know nothing, except add stinky oil to the gas.

I got one of those for free that ran pretty well. I hated it so I just put it out at the curb on junk day and someone took it.

They stink, and there deck design sucks.

My favorite little mowers are the Honda's, pricey though. I'm going to need another mower soon, my Scott is 12 years old and the deck is finaly starting to rot out. Honda had a nice walk behind at Home Depot for $399. They use plastic decks that don't rust, and their a bit lighter which is nice since I have to pick it up to get it in my truck.

Mr. Kenny,

It's a Grass Cutter...YOUR POTENTIAL customers would have to have an average I.Q. ,

I had one of those things. That was the sorriest excuse for a lawn mower ever made. With that offset wheel, the deck would always dig into the dirt if the ground was the least bit uneven.

what the hell is wrong with you guys? those were the best mowers made. you could probably get 200 for it being that it has the duraforce motor and is self propeled. i have two mowers in that same design. one with the 2stroke and one with a 4stroke. i prefer the 2stroke. as for the deck design, the original idea was that it would side discharge better than other mowers with the chute in the middle. if you were in az i would be all over that.

The two cycles are excellent if you have a steep hill to mow, since the lube goes to the motor via the fuel which is atomized and fills the crankcase. the lawn boys have an alloy deck which will not rot out eigher (at least mine did).

a four cycle will starve the bearings on a steep hill.

(those hondas don't run a dry sump do they?) It wouldnt'g shock me if they did!

Looks like a piece of junk to me.

Controls look flimsy, whats up with that offset wheel? and the grass shoot looks awkward to work with.

No mowing product has not taken off more slowly since the introduction of the hover mower....

That is a keeper. Since California banned 2 cycles, that Duraforce 6.5 was the last of the good stuff. Run some Opti 2 cycle oil in it and you won't have to deal with smoke.

If you do sell, at least $200 as was said before.

You could probably eliminate the smoke with a high quality 2 cycle oil at 40 to 1 mix. A Lawnboy in the best condition always sounds like it is in horrible pain. I have worked on many mowers and dislike Lawnboy.

Nice! I knew someone would figure this out eventually. We have 3 walk behinds that are all running perfect no matter how hard I push them We've cut 4 foot high brush with them on a number of occasions. They just keep chopping and bagging no matter what you put in front of them.

The first one we bought in 1981 and we used it every year until 2005....when we sold it to a family friend

I'd buy/use one. I had a neighbor that had an old one and used it for as long as I can remember. They're cool with that weird deck setup too.

I'll agree on that starved bearings thing, I had a scotts mower I bought new for a lawn care business I did for a bunch of people on my street when I was younger....had about 6 customers....a few with extreme hills. The motor was toast after about 5 years....one day I was mowing and it just started making that groan of death....then it seized up....6.5 hp briggs intek motor. Had plenty of fresh oil in it. My dad bought a cheaper craftsman mower with a 5.5hp briggs quantum motor or whatever, its better. The engine was all wussed up with the stupid californicated emission stuff though, so it ran so slow it didn't even cut the grass or mulch anything....so I took care of that. Now it runs like a real gas sucking grass dicing machine! WAY better. Its been in use for 4 years now with no issues aside from needing the carb cleaned out last year....I run Mobil 1 TDT in it.

With no asking price? I'll give you $50 for it. And arrange pick up, if it's a 2-cycle engine, self-propelled, and everything works. Let me know......
