Well cliffmac, you are making a claim, with no documented proof to back up your opinion......

Toro is most certainly not, "the absolute best lawncare equipment you can purchase," if it were, there would be no other brands competing for lawn care business. -Which of course, is not the case.

and of course you took that statement as literally as 'Mercedes Benz' Enginered as No Other....what the hell does that mean?...I am simply saying go look and see...I believe you will find Toro in use at most golf courses just as you find Mercedes Benz in garages in Beverly Hills...not exclusivley, but mostly. get it? It's a relative thing...you gotta be flexible on the concept thing here....

and to put your money were your mouth is...what is the best lawnmower out there? I'd be all ears on this one....and how can you substantiate that one yourself?

I don't know........perhaps you could just provide independent documentation for the Toro claim you made above......that's all I was asking for?

there is no documentation needed here, what's wrong with you? Does the fact that Toyota sells more cars than Mercedes mean that Toyota is a superior automobile...get with the conversation....come on

as a final statement on this whole matter I would say, who the hell cares? it's a stupid lawnmower...not that important in the total scope of life....a lawnboy a toro a craftsman, whatever...it's a stupid lawnmower...and unless you have a $1000 lawnmower it's cheaper and easier just to throw the old one out (or make a go-cart for the kids) and buy a new one......
unless you have a golf course as earlier stated.....but lawnboy is only used on TV for PR on golf shows...the real guys all use toro...so that's it...peace

My family did have a Toro in the early 80's. It was a good riding lawn mower, but couldn't handle the hill we had. It was replaced with a John Deere 314. It did better on the hill. My older brother still has that riding mower. I actually have a JD 208. I have heard the JD's quality has slipped in the past few years.
I don't see many if any Toros around me. Scaggs is one that seems to have a good reputation. I did mow with one once. It was a large walk behind. I'll have to look at golf courses. The R/C flying club bought a multi reel pull behind mower. I think everyone was inpressed with the quality of the cut. Very dense, looks almost like a putting green.
I do have a Lawn Boy 2 cycle. I haven't used it much. Some people really are devoted to them. The ones with the magnesium decks are the more sought after ones. I'll have to try the Opti-Lube. They sell it at NAPA by me. One of the guys there is very impressed with it.
Tom
