I like the boxy ones best.
My girl has a 2004 S60 that she loves, and I feel that she is pretty safe in it compared to a Honda or the Toyota Corolla she traded for it, but I would take a 240 any day!
My friend growing up, was riding in her parents 1968 or 69 Volvo 145 wagon when it was front ended by a Fairlane! The people in the Volvo were fine, but shook up - They were all wearing the new fangled shoulder belts! The moron in the Ford was hurt bad!

Those older Volvos were real tanks! Lots of Swedish steel in them.

My favorite 80's cars are Mercedes, thats why I'm here. I'd buy a 300E long before that 740 or whatever that is.

Only one real answer to this disagreement -

Everyone involved have two beers and DON'T call me in the morning (I'll be hung over).

Indeed. Can say the same about my first '87 300D. Got t-boned by an 04 Ford Explorer at 55 mph. Spun my car around 180 and threw it 20 feet away from the road. Passenger side from the rear door aft smashed in past the wheel. All I got was a set of bruised ribs from being thrown over the flip-down armrest, and was able to start the car and DRIVE it up to the wrecker.

Air bags saved the other gent from serious injury, but that Explorer was toast.

Actually, I liked the 60/70s volvos (164, etc.) more than the 80s squarer designs (240, etc.) for the same reason I prefer the w123 to the w124.

Pretty much. We had a 240 many years ago and my uncle had a 740GLE model. (Always liked the smell of the leather in his car) We still have a 740GL that has been extremely reliable over the years even after it was accidentally driven into a very very deep puddle.....

You get hung over on TWO beers!??

I'd hate to see what the new ones are gonna look like. With the history I've had with chinese tools, I'm surprised they don't fall apart before reaching the dealership...

Sounds smart to me, lots of parts in cars are made in China now anyways.. and they can use Volvo's expertise on how to make a car that can actually withstand a collision and not kill everyone inside and make their own Chinese cars safer, maybe increase profits in their home country if many Chinese drivers can afford such luxuries.
