I don't see how it can be bye-bye to any free application out there?
I use almost every day yahoo messenger for the last 5 years and it is fantastic. OK I can't call a phone number for free but today anyone owns a laptop or PC, so as long as you have yahoo messenger you can talk and see anyone on your contact list for free. Just few hours ago I have spoken for almost 2 hours with some friends across the pond with no interruption, clear image from my camera and excellent voice quality. It is almost like someone seating across the table from you.

Eventually, all phones will come with the same functionality as skype. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the phone suppliers just buys skype so they don't have to rebuild the system.
