Spread lion dung along the boundary of your yard. NO ANIMAL will enter the marked territory of a lion.

I had this exact problem a while back. I hate cat tracks on my cars. We got a free lab mix puppy and an invisible fence for him. It is the kind that doesnt use wires but has a transmitter in the house that has a range of 90 feet in all directions. We didn't get the dog to cure the cat problem, but it sure fixed the problem. Cat hasn't been back.

I had an annoying dog problem once and got some of those felt barrel cleaning rounds. Same size as a pellet - I kept them in a film can with mineral oil to give them some weight. I experimented with them (CO2 pellet pistol) and actual pellets on some targets - cardboard, phonebooks, etc. and the felt pellets didn't penetrate anything like the lead pellets. They did make the dog let out a small yelp.

Damn thing was coming at me like I was on his property. Made him an easy target. Did the trick.

Someone mentioned airsoft gun and that would probably work, but the po-po better not catch you in the act.

How about a simple squirt gun? Maybe diluted vinegar in there.

Super-soaker full of ammonia ought to do the trick.

I think People have more understanding of the Law than Cats do

If you trapped a Person that was trespassing that would be false imprisonment.

I believe the Law is on the Cats side. They are considered free roaming Animals and are allowed to go where they want to.

The reason trapping a Cat that ends up belonging to someone is theft is that Cats are considered Property under the Law even though they don't have much cash Value.

I did not own even one Cat for like 31 Years. During that time I have never found them to be so bothersome that I wanted to shoot one. I always looked at them as part of Nature.
Now, in 31 Years I have stepped on enough Dog Sh** that I have a slight prejudice towards Dogs (ya they also Pee on things to like your Tires); but I still would not shot a Dog.
And, then there is Bird Sh** on your Car; much worse that Paw Prints.

At least I My area when one Cat disappears another shows up to take over the territory. Meaning getting rid of one Cat may not solve the problem.

I did that about 40 years ago with a regular Squirt Gun full of Ammonia as this bold Dog would come in the Back Yard every day and Pee on and through the Screen Door.

I squirted the Dog in the Hip and it let out a yelp and ran off never to be seen again.

The problem with squirting a Cat with Ammonia is that Cats spend hours and hours licking themselves; way more than Dogs do. So a Cat is more likely to be poisoned due that and the fact that they are smaller than most Dogs.

Boil or even just soak some cayenne in water and use that in the squirt gun. Poor man's pepper spray. Wouldn't be toxic. Years ago in my hippie days (yes it's true) I was hanging with some people and there was talk of head lice in the area. I noticed my scalp was itching though it often does (did). A lady told me that one folk remedy was to soak some cayenne and use the water for a sort of anti-lice shampoo. So I prepared a batch, took a shower, and after a soap shampoo applied the cayenne marinate. Everything was going just swimmingly til it ran down into my eyes. Holy flames of Hades, batman, that was some misery. I suddenly got what the big deal about pepper spray was. It was 'breathe, just breathe, this too shall pass . . . ' then it ran down into me private parts.

Not sure what it did to the lice, if there were any, but never again did I experiment with cayenne shampoo.
