Spread lion dung along the boundary of your yard. NO ANIMAL will enter the marked territory of a lion.

Getting a Dog solves the Cat $hit problem but the Dog $hit problem is worse then the original problem.

Boil or even just soak some cayenne in water and use that in the squirt gun. Poor man's pepper spray. Wouldn't be toxic. Years ago in my hippie days (yes it's true) I was hanging with some people and there was talk of head lice in the area. I noticed my scalp was itching though it often does (did). A lady told me that one folk remedy was to soak some cayenne and use the water for a sort of anti-lice shampoo. So I prepared a batch, took a shower, and after a soap shampoo applied the cayenne marinate. Everything was going just swimmingly til it ran down into my eyes. Holy flames of Hades, batman, that was some misery. I suddenly got what the big deal about pepper spray was. It was 'breathe, just breathe, this too shall pass . . . ' then it ran down into me private parts.

Not sure what it did to the lice, if there were any, but never again did I experiment with cayenne shampoo.

I had bought some peppermint Oil and left the bottle on the bed and one of my Cats jumped up and I found out they hat that.

If I don't want the Cats to go near stuff a couple of drops of peppermint keeps them away but it is only good for a max of 4 days and that is inside of the house.

Way before I owned any Cats of my own I never found the to be much of a bother. Considering the Dog $hit I have stepped nights I have woke up to the neighborhood Dogs crazy barking in the middle of the night I find Cats to be much less troublesome. Cats might walk all over your Car but Dogs piss on it.

I have also never been on a walk and had a Cat barking and nipping at my Pants leg as I have with Dogs (Taco Bell type Dogs and those little dogs that look like an old school Mop Head with shot little legs).

Angry Cat Piss Smell

What a great old thread, thanx for bringing it back .

The drunken b8tch next door to me feeds the local feral cats and they come into _my_ yard to poop, they're killing a fair bit of my 60 + Y.O. St. Augustine grass, I won't shoot them and don't like to poison them, maybe I'll try the Cayenne (? SP ?) pepper .

FWIW, I have dogs and flat refuse to let them roam out side my well fenced property .

Other neighbors are feeding the coyotes and then complaining that snowball winds up as coyote lunch .

They're unafraid of humans and walk the streets in broad daylight now .

I never bought one but I liked the Super Squitter idea for getting rid of stray Cats (I don't want to feed any more Cats then I already do and I don't want mine injured in a fight.)

I don't believe in feeding a whole bunch of strays as they reproduce way faster then I imagined. Some people live trap the Strays and go to places where they will fix a limited number of them and then release them after they are fixed. The clip a piece off of the tip of one ear to show they have been fixed.

Getting back to the feeding strays issue. The local County Hospital has a big grounds. I walked by in part of their facility and there was a huge pan of food and like 30 Cats eating from it. That sort of thing must have yielded a huge crop of babies. I like Cats but when the remodeled a lot of the buildings the did away with the Cat feeding.

I went to the local Animal Shelter to get a Cat and was told I could not have one because I put on the Form the it would be an inside outside Cat. Their claim was Coyotes.

There is a map of the Coyote Pet killings and there is none on my side of the River. Over on the richer side of the river there was some (pets must be better fed and therefore tastier over there).

On 2 occasions early in the morning on the weekends on 2 separate occasions I have seen solitary Coyotes walking around in the Industrial area 1/4 mile away. I have never seen any in my neighborhood.

The Streets are more narrow on this side of the River and there is Allies and the Population density is more and lots of people own Dogs here. Lots of places that only take a shot run and or jump for Cats to escape to.

Started off one Cat and years later 4 were born under my House. One was a loner and liked to find stuff in the middle of the road to roll around on and got here head run over and the only Male got bit by something and while his wound healed fine and after a $700 vet bill he died anyway.

The first Cat died of cancer leaving me with 2 sisters. At night the 2 Sisters seem to mostly roam around together and I believe that helps keep them safer then if they were alone. If one runs the other automatically runs also.

Feral Animals

As long as you're willing to fix them I have no problem with feeding strays but no one wants to be bothered trapping then taking them to the Vet......

? Does L.B. have it's own animal pound(s) ? .

If not L.A. has plenty and is trying very hard to be a no kill shelter, there's one in San Pedro right on the North side of the hill, just off the Harbor Freeway .

Just tell them it'll be an indoor pet and you're good to go .

I never knew about the clipped ear thing, that's clever and helpful, thanks .

My pups are neutered and chipped .

Neutering cats makes them *much* (as in vastly) happier and better pets, the need to fight and mate is part of nature's pan to ensure any particular area has a defined population, I don't like seeing wounded cats & etc. die .

Dang ~ SWMBO says go fire up the grille......

A few minutes later .

You're fooling your self if you think Long Beach doesn't have coyotes ~ they range from the mountains to the sea, I see then in every part of So. Cal. .

They're "protected" so don't get caught killing / trapping them but they're a serious pest and need to be eliminated every where they're in town .
