I've always been bothered by the fact that refrigeration (and internal combustion engines) have not been fundamentally changed in the 70+ years that we have been using them.
We have made each system incrementally more efficient, and thats good, but the basic the way we make cars/trucks/small aircraft move hasnt. The most industrially acceptable way to move 'heat' out of something is still a refrigerant loop (if your process isnt hotter than the ambient air) both require precise machining, exotic chemicals, moving parts and lots of plumbing. I'd love to see a 'microturbine' powered car or thermo-electric air conditioner (that is industrially viable...). Right now those two things arent (for different reasons...) That being said - I'm glad that I have the financial status and circumstance to live and travel in climate controlled comfort. I try not to forget that many people don't. -John
