It's the new Spring Break....
...but now with exciting "Urine Scent".
Rich white kids slumming it with the hardcore activists. It reminds me of the guys who show up to a wilderness hike with brand new North Face jackets but don't know how to read a map or make a fire. Or more likely, they're stuck living in the basement of their parents' $300k homes. Not to mention $300k doesn't get you much in NYC

Ding-ding-ding, we have a winner! Prices tend to be $500+ per sq ft in areas where you'd actually want to live.

I remember there was a thread on here a while back and a member from the midwest (I don't remember who it was, but I think they are gone now?) refused to believe that you couldn't live in a nice place in NYC on something like 30-40k a year. We all laughed until we realized he was serious.

But the reports stated that the arrestees came from all over the country, especially the Northeast...not just NYC. In many areas of the country (even outside of NYC), $300,000 will get you a nice pad.
Point is: the OWS movement credence will become compromised if too large a percentage of the protesters are the privileged children of the well-to-do. These kids are dropping the names of private schools during heated debates. Not smart if you want to keep street cred. |

Are you saying there should be some sort of income test for free speech rights?

I don't even want to think about where you would have to live in NYC to get by on $30K/year.

Thats funny. It seems like a lot of people have a vested interest in talking down or at the very least minimizing the OWS movement. Why is that? What are they afraid of?

In other words, you really don't know what you're trying to say. It certainly seems like a hard argument to wrap one's mind around, that somehow some group of people is precluded from protesting or expressing one's belief because he lives in a nice house, I guess your real point was to show us all just what a ridiculous idea that is, wasn't it? That all OWS protestors are somehow supposed to be poor folks and all and that others just don't have a right to say anything if they are not, right? Is that just a ridiculous idea?

That's still the other 99%. You gotta break $350k/yr to make the top 1%.
