I am unclear on what is your point.
Should his gun---or did you mean ALL guns--be illegal?
Or are you in favor of people having "illegal" guns?

It wasn't the gun that caused the problem.

Here's one from the other side---does it help the discussion?---
If only TM had stayed on the sidewalk and not walk thru the unlighted backyards of a community that had a bout of recent break ins, while wearing a hoodie--he'd be alive today.
Where did you learn that he was walking through backyards???
The story as I have heard it was the altercation happened on the sidewalk.
How did the Zim spot him from a vehicle if he was in unlit backyards?
Sounds like someone inventing facts to fit their bias again.

WTF does a hoodie have to do with anything, Geraldo?

The was the gun that facilitated the killing part of this story. No way you can argue out of that.

IMHO, Tom's suggestion was that if the gun the Zim was carrying was not a legally acquired and registered gun, then he may have been more reluctant to use it.

Speaking for myself: I have no problem with laws that require you to get a permit, training, and a background check to carry in populated areas. Other than some asinine restrictions on gun models, CA laws aren't bad -- easy to buy a gun and keep it at home for defense; much harder to get a carry permit in populated areas, whereas more rural counties tend to be "shall issue."

If you oppose gun ownership, then perhaps you favor the ability of young, strong and fit men to dominate and oppress the old, frail, and women.
This case is not the poster child for gun rights, but to argue against gun ownership is to argue for anarchy. The police cannot protect--all they can do is look for the perp.

I support gun ownership. I don't support the right of every cop wannabe cretin to carry one in public in populated areas.

Never said I was opposed to gun ownership. Said the gun was the tool used to commit the killing.
Maybe you disagree?

At present I own 6 firearms. 2 rifles, 3 shotguns and one pistol.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people, but making it so any brain dead dip**** who wants to carry a gun can go get a CC permit does not make anyone safer.

Instead of using rational logic, Z's succumbed to emotions. In the heat of the moment, and unless one is sufficiently trained in the use of deadly force, many people will use emotion rather than logic and that's when things can go from bad to worse. Z should have done what the 911 operator told him to do.....GO HOME. Perhaps he will have a long time to think about his screw up.

going through a gun safety course and firing rounds at a shooting range is far different than dealing with a street confrontation. I think the CCW permit deal is doing nothing but arming a bunch of amateurs. scary.

What's the violent crime rate for CC holders vs the general population?

What's the average IQ of the CC holders who commit violent crimes?
