My problem,(and occasional joy)is that I recall my dreams with crystal clarity, down to the most minute details of the surroundings, people, conversations and even feelings and interpersonal conflicts.
It's long been maintained that dreams are simply a healthy ego's way of resolving conflict and inadequacy. Who knows for certain? They do make damn good plot lines for my short stories though.

my problem is I frequently openly talk in my sleep if the dream is vivid enough. The other day in the morning the GF told me laughing that I conversationally stated with perfect clarity about 4 in the morning, "My name is Jack, get the velociraptors". I have no memory of the dream, and my name isnt Jack, why dinosaurs were important to the dream, I have no idea.

I have no recollection of any of those conversations, but they happen about once a week. Even the kids have witnessed them. Hell...my EX used to get jealous about the dreams, and even accused me of an affair with Monica. I'd love to know who she is...

Someone once stated that dreams are the things your mind displays for you to get rid of. Sorta' like a cleaning of the gray matter.
As for my dreams...the one that seems to come around every few years is one that I find myself running...for no particular reason and as I'm running, each stride seems to get longer and longer until, at one point, I'm almost "gliding" an unbelievable distance...like 500 feet or more between steps...then I'm taking steps/strides that have me looking down from great heights. I feel a little fear, but with each step almost being "airy" and "light" (no pain), I find myself stepping even more "lightly" and stretching out even more so to see if I can go farther/faster than I'm going now. Then, for whatever reason, I say to myself something along the lines of "You really aren't doing this" and I wake up, just as the alarm is going off. When I get up and start moving about, I do feel refreshed...as if I had a good sleep. Strange...

I too agree that dreaming does not seem to reduce the resting factor on the body in general as well. When young some people if not all can select their dreams subject. I have no awareness if dream interpretation is real or just basically of no importance at all. As you get older in my experience remembering a dreams contents become less common. Although at the same time. You usually probably dream just as much. The above is just my opinions on dreams as they have impacted me over my lifetime. I always woke up at the time of any death of myself for example. I just assume that as flexiable as our brains and imaginations are my mind refused to go into that area. If anyone has ever remembered staying in a dream state once they died in it I would like to know. |

It has never occurred to me that this was possible when young but not possible as we age. I used to routinely select my dreams when young. I like the shoot em up/thriller type dreams that involved bank robberies or something. I haven't tried selecting a dream in years. Maybe I will and see if I can still do it. It could be that as our subconscious minds become packed with so much data over the years, that there is too much in the library that the subconscious needs to use so conscious selection becomes impossible.
