What is this "range permit" of which you speak?

To carry the weapon in a concealed manner to and from the range, they issue a "range permit". It gets around the problem of transporting the weapon off your own private property.

You are obligated to take it directly to and from the range without any intermediate stops. How rigidly such a clause is regulated is the question.

Out here in The Land Of Freedom and Justice For Almost Everybody you can take an online CCW course for fitty bucks, get a 70 on the test and download your certificate for submission to the state all in about an hour.
Didn't pass? Was it the question "What do you call the thing you pull back on to make the gun go bang?" That one gets a lot of people. No worries, it's legal here to concealed carry even if you don't have a CCW. We even have an Official State Gun. Yee haw!!!

The differences between the various states is striking. I don't believe you could find another country with such diverse laws regarding weapons.

I'd like to compare the crime rates in AZ vs. NY when I get some time.

The numbers are bound to be skewed...

Remember, they got Sheriff Joe Arpaio.....

Our firearm death rate per 100K is more than triple New York's. I didn't look at overall crime rates or gun specific crime rates. We rank fifth, behind Wyoming, Louisiana, Alaska and...drum roll... D.C. No time to look right now but I'd bet Wy., AK and La. have similar gun laws to AZ. I thought D.C. had pretty serious restrictions?

Restrictions in DC are fairly low barriers when VA is just down the road.

Last time I checked it was a no-no to carry in DC. They do not issue permits and do not recognize out of state permits.

BS laws -- you mean like in TX, where a lady was recently threatened with 10 years in prison for possession of dildos aka "obscene devices" with intent to sell? Law eventually was overturned on appeal, but it was illegal till very recently.

Texas is no libertarian paradise -- some place like Nevada would be much closer to that ideal.

I once saw an old oil production contract that described the volume of a barrel of oil as 'A good measure and a good measure more'. Someone had written in 'one bl=42 US gal' and there were a bunch of initials all around it.

A smart Lawyer can make a contract say whatever they want it to say, and the law here was likely composed by Lawyers in the Lege.

I was told there were contracts that identified 'a good measure' as 40 gallons and 'a good measure more' as two gallons, so perhaps this was common at one time.

Closer, but still not perfect. They still get way too silly with drug enforcement a lot of the time. Oh, and if somebody steals your scooter, the cops are useless, but have two beers and then try to drive to the store for a pack of cigarettes, it's ON.

well, sex toys are not protected by the second amendmant. I agree that was a stupid law. lots of states have odd old laws on the books. BTW, I was speaking regionally, not by state. I live in OK.

What about Vermont or New Hampshire? Liberal carry laws (Vermont allows CC without a permit), fairly reasonable police, tradition of true democracy (gov't by town meeting in smaller towns).
