1993 300E 3.2 Oil leak
On my 1993 300E 3.2 engine oil is leaking from the front of the engine. I looked around but have not found anything. I know it is not the valve cover or the main seal.
Does anybody know what is in the front of the engine that can cause oil leak. |

Timing cover gaskets or head gaskets, two areas MBs are "known for" about their quality.

Ditto for me...
Had the same leak fixed a couple of years ago on mine (same model, same engine)...it was the timing cover seal on the front of the engine. ..oil hasn't leaked since!

How much did you pay to fix the leak on the timing chain cover?

I had it performed under my extended warranty back then, but if memory serves me correctly, it would have been about $280...back then, labor was around $80/hr...

I found out that the oil is leaking from the left side of the timing chain cover. I removed the cover. There is a gasket on the bottom side of the cover. Do you know if this is a part of the head gasket or can it be replaced?

If the gasket that you are referring to is the U-shaped one, it is available separately. You will also need the water pump bypass hose fitting o-rings and a valve cover gasket set.

Finally I fixed it today. It took me about 5 hours and $100 in parts.
Thanks for the help. |
