Another good to excellent selection would be the old, pre-Chrysler Jeep Wagoner. V8 power, lots of luxury features, excellent handling, built like a tank and, best of all, for the $10K price range you could probably fix anything and everything it might need.

I would not recommend a Chrysler product....

SUV for under 10K

I would recommend the Trooper very highly. For 10K you could get a 95 or 96 that would be in very good condition. Our 88 has survived a son with no respect for mechanical things and it still runs good although it looks quite rough. It has 122K
on it and still uses no oil shifts properly and
starts easily even in -20F weather. I will probably replace it with a newer one this summer
when the 4WD prices go down a little. The Subaru
is also a good bet but the price stays high until the mileage is very high. Our 95 is worth 9-10K
with 66K miles. Most 95-96 models are still 12K
here in Colorado. The gas milage is about the same
for both the Trooper and Subaru (Trooper 2.6 4Cyl
Subaru 2.2 4 Cyl, both Auto) I have put three crank angle sensors in the Subaru and the only non abuse related repair to the trooper is a water pump. We've driven both 66K miles.
