Is there a chance that the drivers who drove over the flares were thinking that it was better to put them out and save the planet from more pollution?

It was YOU who held up everyone last night !

With no dis-respect. Look at the hassle you caused yourself by running empty. You could have spent $5 to pump 1+ gallon and get to your favorite station without any issues.

Instead you wasted yourself a few hours, a few flares and held up traffic. Now you are blaming other motorists running over your flares and not giving you a hand? If it were me, I would have kept quiet and let by-gone be by-gone. Don't even mention this incident to anyone.

Yeah, I remember a video posted here some months ago. A fellow was sitting idling his diesel waiting for his kids to walk out of school. A lunatic lady came up ranting and raving and waving her arms because this guy was polluting the planet and causing sure death for us all.

No sympathy here. You created the hazard yourself. Lucky you didn't get rear ended by some numbskull on a cell phone.

That's a fallacy. A tu quoque fallacy to be specific.

Are you going to say the same thing the next time I have to drop a flare because of an accident? (The main reason I have flares)

I already admitted I was at fault (of course you probably skipped that part of the OP).

Oddly enough, I just watched "Citizen Kane" yesterday. Kinda spooky you posting this clip. Maybe I should turn the aluminum foil hat "shiny" side out?

Quite an assumption.

Anyways you weren't in an accident, that's a what-if scenario that didn't occur. What you did was make a stupid yet conscious decision that put numerous other people at risk (in the very least inconvenienced them) as well as yourself. Why do you feel like they owe you something?

This is like that guy posting about a fedex truck parking too close to him after he parked across 2 spaces.

Keep in mind the OP only fessed up to us, his brethren.

To the outside world, he had a breakdown.

There was no "Look at me - I pulled a Kramer and Failed" sign posted.

So that's the kind of treatment you guys hand out? Tough crowd.

Sure we can get on him for bringing it on himself, but the reaction from other drivers still sucks.

Doesn't matter what the other people think happened to his car. Were they inconvenienced and potentially put in the path of unnecessary harm? Yes. The fact that he's complaining about it after making a conscious decision to basically see how far his car could go on a tank (with reserve light on for days?) makes it that much more dramatic. Live life on the edge, I guess...

Not sure how one is supposed to give sympathy in that situation (point of a self-described rant?).

Get used to it. It is a tough world out there, same for cyber world.

I cannot agree more with TBO, it is a self inflicted wound. My way or the highway mentality. I am sure he would get help if he flagged some drivers down, but to rant here for someone running over the flash... That is too much to swallow.

People are a pain in the a**. Work on the side of the road for any length of time and you would be amazed at what you see.

I remember one time my uncle was backing his dump truck up to a trailer and I got out to stop traffic on a quite side street. No traffic until a car came up and I motioned to stop. The lady could clearly see a big freaken dump truck starting to back across the road and me, but swerved around me, my uncle seeing this out of his passenger window just kept backing up, **** em is his attitude. She just managed to get behind the truck clipping one mirror on the back, and damaging one wheel on the curb. Never stopped.

A few years ago on a sewer invert job that I wasn't on, but was on a busy road they had two cops directing traffic. Some boozo in a big dually Ram with massive towing mirrors decided he wasn't going to wait for one of the guys to get out of the way when they closed the lane to let equipment pass and reopened it. So he just went threw and the mirror struck one of my uncles workers.

The cops called their buddy's and about a mile up the road the guy was pulled over, taken out of his truck, and arrested for a hit and run in a work zone.

People are a PITA, when you have a work zone set up in a street. Generally you want to throw your shovel threw a cars window several times a day.

Ridiculous.

Yes. We know that. They did not know that it was unnecessary.

I don't condone the action that got him into the situation, but I sympathize with the reaction.

X2.

The OP is an individual who knows the limits of the vehicle with regard to fuel economy. Should such a person decide to test the limit, if he's not a complete moron, he carries some extra fuel in the trunk or he weighs the possibility of getting stuck on the side of the road.

I frequently push the SD in an identical manner. Today, the reserve light came on at 505 and I pushed it to 542. However, the day was brilliant sunshine and the temperature was close to 40. So, I weighed the risk of running out and decided to take it. Now, if it's snowing and dark, there is NFW that I push the limits because the consequences of failure can be absolutely dire.

The OP should most certainly be thankful that no moron rear ended his vehicle and caused a total loss because that is the most likely scenario in the dark.

I find it laughable that the OP is chastising one of the idiots for running over his flare when he never should have been in such a situation in the first place.

If the vehicle fails mechanically and the OP had no possibility of avoiding the failure (fuel pump as an example), he's got a case for his dissatisfaction with the idiots on the road. But, not in this case.

The behavior of "other drivers" has now become a given. If you notice, most of them are damn lucky to get the vehicle from point "A" to point "B". They simply operate the controls without the slightest understanding of the machine or the traffic or the flow of the road.

It's a GD miracle that more accidents don't occur every day and rarely a day goes by where I must deliberately take evasive action to avoid an accident.j

Just yesterday, a semi had moved from the center lane to pass in the right lane. I was travelling the left lane and, once the center lane opened up, I began to move right into the center lane. Would you believe that the semi, for no good reason, decides to take the center lane at the exact moment? Nobody in front of him in the right lane.............

I had an idea that he might do it...........and the only reason you're listening to me is that I managed to get back into the left lane before he hit me.

Running over a flare..............that's absolutely benign............in the grand scheme of things.
