so far, it's been only a disaster for the asshats committing crimes against the armed free citizen....and, I am ok with that.

you ever think that violent crime is going down in part b/c of CCP and SYG? even a scumbag doesn't want to die at work.....

I believe that violent crime started declining long before the current gun/SYG fad. AFAIK, people who study the issue are mystified. They don't know why violent crime has declined as much as it has.

Here is an outstanding book on the subject: The Collapse of American Criminal Justice: William J. Stuntz: 9780674051751: Amazon.com: Books

That book is a real eye-opener. Professor Stuntz was a brilliant and decent man who died way too young. I was fortunate to have him as a professor for a couple of semesters in law school. He was the only professor I ever had who was younger than me. Great guy.

wouldn't it be a disaster if you were overwhelmingly attacked and did not have your ccw with you? better to die than to have an opportunity to save yourself?

I have been attacked, mugged, jumped or whatever you want to call it, twice in my life. Both were racially motivated. The first, I believe, was a gang initiation thing and I was the unlucky sob white guy to be walking by minding my own business. Not too bad, a broken tooth, mildly cracked jaw and a bruised outlook on life at 16. Outnumbered by at least 8-10, I got sucker punched pretty good. The second time it was a brutal attack while in college. Jumped from behind, kicked and punched senseless, probably only alive today due to helpful citizens that came to my rescue. My head look like a head of cauliflower, cuts and lacerations, had bruises all over my body, white shirt was blood red. Over 6 assailants. Both instances were accompanied by racial slurs and such. Someone called campus police and cops but they took over an hour to show up!! Still have occasional aches in my facial area from the injuries after nearly 20 years later. It took weeks if not months for allof my injuries to heal for the most part. I still have emotional scars to this day. I wont be caught off guard again!

If I'm not mistaken, incarceration rates have risen while the rate of violent crime has decreased. Some might say that having so many in jail is precisely why the rate has gone down but I'm not so sure. Many detainees are in prison for non-violent drug offenses.

That makes sense to me, but apparently the statistics do not support a cause-and-effect relationship between the high incarceration rates and the reduction in violent crime. I don't have a link handy, but I have seen articles on that point.

I guess I've been lucky, but in all of my 56 years on Earth, I only know one person who ever needed to use a gun to defend himself and even that guy probably could have retreated had he been unarmed.

I'll take my chances.
