First, a bit of financial info.... Broadcast TV can easily run $4,000 a minute to produce. If you are offered a live feed of something that folks might watch there is no way you are going to turn down free money. But to get the eyeballs you need to hype the trial. All the nets that did this and each is as guilty as the next.

So when people say this was a media circus they are not far off.

And even if you can't get your hands on the feed you can always come up with loony things to write about concerning the trial. Got a point of view you wish to push but you seem to be running out of new ways to do it? Grab on to Zimmerman and wring all the money out of him you can. The worst thing that can happen is that the trial will end and you will have to go back to making up stuff about other people.

So..... Zimmerman is going to be dealing with this for the rest of his life. I am sure he wishes the evening had not gone as it did, but it did and now he is an object of wonder. A free object because he is 'news' and everything he does until the day he dies and likely for months thereafter will be 'news'. And cheap news, too.

Zimmerman might think his days in the meat grinder are over, but I would bet they are just getting started.
Where is Lt Calley? (I honestly don't know).

Sometimes people do really awful stuff and are soon forgotten.

Calley hid from the press with the help of his family and supporters. He worked in his Father-in-Law's jewelry shop for many years.

He is said to be offering to do interviews for $25,000.

He recently, in 2009, spoke to a Kiwanas Club meeting and said there was not a day that went by that he wished he had done something different that day.

But the main reason you don't hear about him? Because no one cares. If he could sell newspapers there would be no let up in stories about him, but his case is one most people just want to forget. No interests, no ratings, no stories.

I read Calley's book. Towards the end wonders why it is OK to Call Artillery in on a Village or Bomb a Village indiscriminately killing a maiming who ever is in it?

This is part of the reason Combat Vets have a tough time when they get Home. What is normal and important in War is not normal when you are back Home in your Father-in-laws Jewelry Shop.

Sometimes things that seem terribly important in the moment are less important later. Calley is an example. It may happen with Mr. Z. Time will tell.
